Youth from Outside In showcase their films to a crowd of 600 people
Renowned director Todd Haynes served as emcee for an evening of entertainment and celebration at the Gerding Theater. Fourteen homeless or formerly homeless youth produced, directed and acted in original films based on their personal experiences with issues including domestic abuse, violence, classism and physical and mental health. A documentary chronicling their filmmaking process was also shown. Watch the films yourself by following the video link above or read one of the Oregonian articles below.

- Your Support Changes Lives -
We often hear from former clients and wanted to share these expressions of gratitude with you.
"I have not had a family for most of my life. Until I met you. Thank you for supporting me as if I was a brother, a son, a nephew, cousin, or some other member of your family. Thanks for the hope for a young man with no hope for himself. If you ever think your cause is in vain, just re-read this letter and know you have helped the change of one person's life. Is that not the goal?"
"I just have to tell you how incredibly grateful I am to this organization. I was one of these homeless youth. It was the darkest most frightening time in my life and Outside In was there to help pick me up. I will forever be in your debt. I am now 35 and living a happy and productive life. I now have a family and three beautiful little girls. I cannot wait until I am in a place in my life to be able to give back more directly but until that time the homeless youth and your staff will remain in my prayers."
"I thank you guys so much for all of the help that I received. I wouldn't be where I am at today, if it was not for all of your influence in my life." |

- New Outside In Van Courtesy of The Collins Foundation -
Look for us all over Portland and surrounding communities as we provide services for clients.
Our old van traveled thousands of miles, saw much laughter and shared memories, and transported many items of necessity, but was overdue for replacement. Here are just a few of the old van's problems we said goodbye to, with the arrival of our new Dodge Caravan, courtesy of The Collins Foundation:
- Power locks didn't work; we sometimes had people sleeping in the van overnight.
- It would stall if you slowed down or stopped, so we tried to just keep moving at all times.
- Back doors didn't open, making loading and unloading things like food donations challenging and interesting.
- The driver's side view mirror was literally attached with duct-tape.
- The radio dials were missing knobs, making it difficult to adjust volume or station settings.
