Helping homeless youth and other marginalized people move towards
improved health and self-sufficiency.

 - Outside In Increases Medical Access -

Medical van
Both Clackamas and Multnomah Counties Will Benefit

Outside In received a federal grant to increase medical services. The grant will fund $650,000 for each of the next 10 years. We will be operating a school-based health center in Milwaukie and providing care to homeless families in both Clackamas and Multnomah Counties.

The grant helps Outside In continue to bring medical and health care services directly to the streets via a fully equipped, dual exam room medical van. Serving the hardest to reach communities, medical outreach delivers preventative and life-enhancing medical services to an increasing number of individuals who do not have access to health care.

 - OHSU's Graduating Doctors Include a Former Outside In Youth -

This former Outside In client begins her residency in family and community medicine at the University of California San Francisco - her first choice.

Aleka Spurgeon-Heinrici was among the 59 women and 45 men who graduated from OHSU's Doctor of Medicine program. The Oregonian told her story of overcoming obstacles, becoming a medical school success and wanting to go out and make a difference for others. The 29-year-old Spurgeon-Heinrici said of her journey,

"I know that people can change.
We can recover. We can heal."

- Graduation: Honoring the Achievements of Homeless Youth -

Graduation 2011

Our clients have been studying hard for their GED and college classes, and finding employment on their path to self-sufficiency. A crowd filled the room at The Gerding Theater to celebrate the many accomplishments of these youth: 25 earned their GED; 24 finished a quarter of college classes; and 100% completed their work experience.

Howard "H" White (V.P. of Nike/Air Jordan Brand), gave the Keynote Address, and youth keynote speaker, Danielle Roe, inspired the audience with an address that focused on finding the strength to move forward.
