Interested in how an author creates a novel? My husband is inviting comments on a first draft of his latest work for young readers (and their parents and grandparents).

Fourteen-year-old James Asia's life changes the day a long-lost relative leaves him an unexpected inheritance--a thousand-foot long container ship. Pursued by a multinational crime syndicate known as CASPER, James must first save himself before he can save his parents and, oh yeah, prevent a world war. Who is CASPER and what do they want with the Kismet? How can he prevent CASPER from goading two squabbling nations into igniting Word War III? James doesn't know, yet, but with the help of unexpected friends and using some of the mysterious cargo aboard ship, he just may stand a chance.

This weekend, catch me on The Quilt Show!

In honor of International Quilt Day (March 17, 2012), The Quilt Show (www.thequiltshow.com), the web TV show hosted by Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims, will be allowing free views of all of its shows from the first nine series for the entire weekend of March 16-18.
Last season, after an enjoyable visit to the TQS studios, I was the featured artist in show 801. If you didn't have the opportunity to see this segment first time around, now you'll have the chance to see it--and so many other terrific shows--at no cost in this three-day offer.
It's a fantastic opportunity to enjoy three days of learning and fun without leaving your home...all for free.
Enjoy the shows, share them with friends, and thanks for helping to spread the quilting word!
Until later,
Susan

Fuzzy Slippers Quilt Retreat Report

A small but enthusiastic class of students joined me Valentine's week for a 5-day class at the cozy Harpswell Inn here in Maine. This year's mild winter made travel easy, but part of me missed the beautiful snow cover! However, we were able to take breaks to get outside and enjoy the scenery.
Inside, we worked on colorful projects, ate (almost) too much food, and made some new friends. I'll try to get photos posted on my website by next month. |

Funky Craft Project
Before After

If you've signed up for this newsletter, you probably know how much I love scraps of fabric. Most of my scraps become part of my "pallet" as I work, but (believe it or not), I do end up with small piles to get rid of. Many of these are strips cut from selvages or quilt edges -- perfect for wrapping things -- or so I found out.
A year ago I was going to toss out an electrically defunct wire tree. On the way to the trash, my repurpose nature came to the surface and an evening-while-I-watch-TV project was born. Starting at the base of each branch, I wrapped those strips up and over each branch and bulb - glueing the ends in place as I came to them.
The crazy and colorful tree now graces a shelf in our living room, displaying artsy ornaments over the holidays, and needle-felted ornaments this winter. Hmmm, what for springtime? Now, off to bring in more strips - and that old plant stand, and chandelier, and.... |
