Interested in how an author creates a novel? My husband is inviting comments on a first draft of his latest work for young readers (and their parents and grandparents).
For more information, visit the website: tomallenbooks.com
Fourteen-year-old James Asia's life changes the day a long-lost relative leaves him an unexpected inheritance--a thousand-foot long container ship. Pursued by a multinational crime syndicate known as CASPER, James must first save himself before he can save his parents and, oh yeah, prevent a world war. Who is CASPER and what do they want with the Kismet? How can he prevent CASPER from goading two squabbling nations into igniting Word War III? James doesn't know, yet, but with the help of unexpected friends and using some of the mysterious cargo aboard ship, he just may stand a chance.

There's Room Left at the Inn!
Happy New Year! Sure, it's snowy, and, okay, it's chilly, but that won't prevent us from having a wonderful time over Valentine's Day retreat week. Join me and other students at the warm and cozy Harpswell Inn in my hometown of Harpswell, Maine.
Check out the information below to learn more about the Fuzzy Slippers Winter Quilt Retreat or one of the other quilt retreats I'm hosting this year. To see student work created at previous retreats, visit my class galleries.
Until later,

"Tie-Dye"
For those who have been following the progression of the series of portraits of my son Sam, here's an in-progress peek at the final version, "Tie-Dye" (thank you Biddy for the hand-dyed stash!). The series is rather Warhol-esque, with each of the four portraits a variation in color of the same photo. The theme is based on our bus stop send-off of "Peace, Love, Tie-dye, Save the Whales." This morning ritual started earlier in his school career and has even continued into high school. I'm blessed with an indulgent son. Previous sneak-peeks can be seen from my web-site front page under February, March, and September 2011 newsletter archives. Final version to come!
