The Given Land is a novel written by my husband, which was inspired by our family's trip to New Zealand. When predators invade their island home, the bird heroes of the Given Land are forced to fight for their existence. Geared to young adult readers (aka our son, Sam), it will appeal to adults as well. After a hectic schedule of events in June and July, August in Maine is finally a time when we take a breath and enjoy our beautiful state. Whether it's camping or kayaking or just sitting in a lawn chair, now's the time to enjoy being outdoors. Soon enough--too soon--autumn will creep in, leaves will turn, the air will turn brisk and we'll piling on the sweaters.
Among my favorite memories of this season will be my Summertime Quilt Retreat on July 9-10 with a lovely bunch of gals from around the country and Canada. This followed the Springtime Retreat at the same location on May 20-21. For two days we took over the iconic B&B, the Harpswell Inn. Fabric flew and scissors flashed as we created some great projects. Visit my new photo gallery to view some of the creations (www.susancarlson.com/Class_Photos).
2012 Springtime Quilt Retreat These retreats were such a hit that participants requested I make these annual events. I'm happy to comply. I got some great feed-back from students and will be making some changes accordingly. Mainly, I'll be limiting the class size to 15 students. It allows me more time with each student, though it will increase the cost to $210 for the two day retreat. What I won't be changing is the complementary chair massage each day - that was quite a hit with both sessions!
I've scheduled the Springtime Retreat for Friday and Saturday, May 11-12. Stay tuned for more details.
2012 Summertime Quilt Retreat I haven't yet picked a date for the Summertime Retreat, but (due to other summertime events) I expect that it will have to be in August. I'm considering making it a 4-day session for those who have wished for the extra class time. This could allow students to either complete a simple project or to get a good start on a more ambitious project. Again, stay tuned for more details.
If Maine is not in your itinerary for next year, check out my updated "Upcoming Classes" sidebar (left) to see if I'll be teaching near you.
Until later, Susan |
