Eileen Wold is a local Baltimore artist that expresses her concern for environments that sustain food through innovative and provactive art, including photography, paintings, sketches, and video.

Come out and meet Eileen, enjoy her art, have a glass of wine, and strike up a conversation about the importance of the Chesapeake Bay to our way of life in Maryland.

Exploring the Confusion Around Food and Exercise

Come out for this interesting program on food and exercise by Barbara Smith, and enjoy some food samples by Bon Appetit. 


Dr. Smith is the Associate Dean of Research at the School of Nursing. She completed her nursing training at Case Western Reserve University and her doctoral studies in exercise physiology at The Ohio State University. Her research interests include exercise intervention to improve health in cancer survivors and psychomotor functioning in adults with HIV. She has published widely in these areas.


Spring Diploma Application Reminder

Are you planning to graduate in May? 


The deadline to apply for a spring diploma is February 13th.  If you haven't already filled out a Diploma Application, please remember to do so before the deadline.  To apply for your diploma, please logon to SURFS by clicking here.  


Once you are logged on to SURFS, select Student Services and Financial Aid and the Student Records.  The application Application for Diploma will be in the middle of the menu. 


If you apply by the deadline you will recieve an email form the Office of the Registrar verifying the spelling of your name, the degree you will recieve, and the address to which your diploma will be sent should you decide not to attend the Commencement ceremony at the Baltimore Arena on May 20th. 


Diploma Applications submitted after February 13th must be approved by your school/program before they can be processed.

Everyone enjoys a good piece of fruit, but what most people don't realize is that bees have a lot to do with getting fruit into our hands. Unfortunately, bee populations are on a global decline mainly due to Colony Collapse Disorder.


Backyard beekeeping is a great way to help the bee population. Come to this lecture by Steve McDaniel, president of the Maryland State Beekeepers Association, photographer, and bee enthusiast, to learn how to be a backyard beekeeper.

New parents need education and support to make breastfeeding successful, according to the Surgeon General's Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding.

This nuts and bolts seminar will include the basic information that mothers need to prepare and implement successful breastfeeding, and that fathers, grandmothers, and friends need to support them. Actual users of the lactation centers at the University of Maryland Baltimore will share their helpful tips. This class is open to all students, faculty and staff.

Are you struggling with a personal problem? Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or worried about academics or graduation? Having concerns about interpersonal relationships or communication with others? You might benefit from joining the Student Support Group. This group will be facilitated by a psychologist from UMB Student Counseling Center. It consists of a small (approximately 8-10 group members), confidential group of UMB students that will be meeting once a week from February 23, 2011 to April 13, 2011. It is an opportunity to give and receive help to other students who are going through similar problems.  You are not alone!
