Meet Courtney J. Jones

Courtney J. Jones, MBA

The University Office of Academic Affairs and the department of Student Services are pleased to announce the hiring of a new team member. 

Courtney will begin her tenure with the University Office of Student Services on Monday, January 3, 2011. Ms. Jones succeeds Ms. Jill Venezian who retired from the University in March.


Courtney earned a Masters degree in Business Administration from Morgan State University. While attending Morgan State, she was employed in a number of capacities, including serving as a Graduate Assistant, then moving up to Assistant Academic Coordinator of Intercollegiate Athletics; she ended her tenure at Morgan State as Life Skills Coordinator.

 Ms. Jones' knowledge and talents will be challenged and put to good use as she begins her employment with Student Services. She will be responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising a variety of professional and administrative activities related to the efficient day-to-day operation of the department.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) classes are once again available to all UMB students. This program helps you enhance your overall health and quality of life through simple and effective stress reduction techniques taught by professional instructors, Deborah Rejent, DSW, MSSW, MA, and Catherine Kelleher, RN, MS, MPH, ScD. Learn how to use mindfulness techniques like meditation, body scans, mindful eating, and gentle yoga to manage the stresses of everyday life. Enrollment is limited and there is a $50 materials fee.

Class dates: 1/25, 2/01, 2/08, 2/15, 2/22, 03/01, 03/08 (make up in case of snow). Retreat: 03/05.

Complete New FAFSA Now!


FAFSADeadline is March 1, 2011

The 2011-2012 FAFSA is now live at www.FAFSA.gov. Students are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible, and no later than March 1, 2011, to improve their chances of receiving Health Profession, Nursing, or Perkins Loans; University Grants; Work Study; or State of Maryland awards.  

Students should estimate their income now and edit their FAFSA as needed once they have completed their 2010 taxes.   Please note that Dental and Pharmacy students must put their parental income and asset information on the first transaction to be considered for Health Professions Loans.
