The Flu Affair
Unraveling our relationship with a deadly virus |

Thursday, November 18, 2010 SMC Campus Center Ballroom A Noon - 1:00 p.m. Light lunch will be served and this event is FREE to all UMB students, faculty and staff. All that is required is pre-registration.
From the first recorded mentions of a flu-like virus in ancient writings, through the sophisticated monitoring systems in place today, the history of influenza is a history of humanity's desperate attempt to understand the causes and mitigate the effects of an illness that, in its most virulent form, can kill in days. Join Lauren Hynicka, PharmD, Assistant Professor of Pharmacotherapy at the School of Pharmacy to learn about our interesting relationship with the deadly flu virus. Dr. Hynicka serves as a clinical pharmacy specialist on a general internal medicine team at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She received her doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and completed residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond, Va. Authentic Movement Workshop |

Saturday, November 20 SMC Campus Center, Rooms 349
Come experience Authentic Movement - a creative form of self-expoloration. Check in with yourself as we wind down on a tough semester! Release, explore, reacquaint you with you.
Everyone is welcome - no prior experience is necessary.
Combining movement for self-expression with mindfulness, improvisation, and active imaginiation, Authentic Movement is a modality used to integreate creativity into relaxation and personal insight. This is a safe and welcoming environment. We'll work together to explore, so come prepared to move in easy fitting clothing (and bare feet). Feel free to bring a journal for processing thoughts, sensations, emotions, and impulses. Due to the quiet and personal nature of our work, we ask participants to arrive promptly. Questions? Email Susan Taylor at: Stay1008@umaryland.edu.
Future workshops are scheduled for: Saturday, December 4 and Saturday February 19, 2011.
This event is sponsored by Creativity in Caring : for Learning and Community and USGA. |
