TBL Electronic Scratch-Off Forms
LCMS+ Gives You a Better Group Readiness Assessment Tool

Broken pencilLCMS+ now offers an electronic scratch-off form for use on TBL exams for GRAs (group readiness assessments). You can set a graduated score scale and faculty can specify how many open-book questions they will allow. Students can then decide how many open-book questions they want for that exam.

Analytics include a grid that shows you the groups or individual students and the questions. Each answer is color-coded so you can tell how many tries it took a student to get to the correct answer.

One great feature of this function is that it allows instant feedback for faculty to see how to lead post-exam discussions. Also, you don't have to write exams to fit a pattern on some form - just create the exam and let students take it. It's easier for both faculty and students.

Let us know if you'd like to see the LCMS+ electronic scratch-off form for yourself!
Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships
Are Your Students In It for the Long Run?

The Sanford School of Medicine in Yankton, SD, recently hosted an international gathering of medical educators to discuss the growing adoption of longitudinal integrated clerkships (LICs), which focus on long-term care and relationship-building between physician and patient.

According to the Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan, the research of Dr. David Irby (UCSF) has found that on 15 indicators, including patient care and development of communication skills, medical students completing LICs perform better than graduates of classical programs on everything but general medical knowledge. On that count, students score equally.

Read the article about LICs and remember that LCMS+ can help you track, assess and report longitudinal data or any other criteria by which you measure student performance.
Analytics Spell It Out For You
LCMS+ can show you what's happening where

Pie chartLCMS+
offers you the option to include Google Analytics in your system implementation. This option (which can be turned on or off as you wish) allows you to understand how people are accessing your system: where traffic is coming from, how many users are engaging with the system, how often they are visiting and what tools and browsers they are using. This data can help quantify the system's value to deans and administrators and can help technical managers allocate resources most effectively.

Get the Big Picture of Your Assessment Data

Assessment
The Harvard-Macy Institute will explore "A Systems Approach to Assessment in Health Professions Education." This week-long program in March 2012 is designed to help health care educators "learn how to harness assessment information in creative ways that allow them to more effectively define their goals, measure performance, and promote their institutional mission."

This makes sense to us, because a truly integrated curriculum management system should help you collect, reveal and understand the big picture of all your data. Drop us a line and we'll tell you more about how LCMS+ can help you do just that.

If you're interested in attending the program at Harvard, applications are due by November 18 and must be filed electronically at www.harvardmacy.org.

KU Med Center

Hats off to our client The University of Kansas School of Medicine as they apply for National Cancer Institute designation. The NCI Cancer Center program is "the gold standard for cancer institutes across the country. NCI-designated Cancer Centers are recognized for their scientific excellence [and] are a major source of discovery and development of more effective approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment." We are proud to partner with such a distinguished institution and are keeping our fingers crossed for a nod from the NCI!

More kudos for Kansas: The University of Kansas Hospital was ranked 2nd in quality and safety out of 101 of the top academic medical centers in the University HealthSystem Consortium's 2011 Quality and Accountability Study. Congratulations yet again!
