Stewardship/Generosity Campaign for 2012
| | Extravagant Generosity
First United Methodist Church held our Generosity/Stewardship Campaign in November. If you would like to share a Faith Pledge with us for 2012, we ask that you get that to us by December 15. Your participation allows us to make accurate estimations for our budgeting process in the next year, and helps us to be accountable in our spiritual discipline of giving. The information for this campaign was mailed to your physical address. If you did not receive it or or are not on our mailing list, you may download the information here. We hope you will prayerfully consider how Christ is calling you to respond this year. Extravagant Generosity Cover LetterExtravagant Generosity Information Newsletter2012 Pledge Card |

Institute on the Constitution Study
| |
The Friendship Sunday School Class of the First United Methodist Church, Harlingen, is sponsoring a 12-week study course entitled "Institute on the Constitution." You are cordially invited to join friends and neighbors in this study which delves into how the framers of our Constitution viewed their relationship to God and the underlying Biblical principles on which our government is based. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about American history and the drafting and ratification of the Constitution of the United States. Classes will meet in the Pletcher Parlor beginning January 8 and continue every Sunday morning at 10:40 a.m. for approximately 12 weeks. Each class will feature an informative 30 minute videoed lecture by Constitutional attorney and professor, John Eidsmoe. Don't miss this opportunity to explore and learn how America can recover its lost freedoms and the legacy of liberty our Founding Fathers fought to preserve. Mr. Eidsmoe holds five degrees in law, theology, and political science. He currently serves as professor of constitutional law and related subjects at Oak Brook College of Law and Government Policy. A constitutional attorney and lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, he has also taught church history and other subjects in various seminaries. A student manual (study book) which contains copies of the Mayflower Compact, Declaration of Independence, Constitution of the U.S., other articles, review questions, and tests for each chapter is helpful to have. They cost $30 and must be ordered. Call 1-866-730-9796 to order, and ask for the "Institute On the Constitution Student Manual." Susan Francis will be leading the study. Call JoAnn Cleckler, 956-423-6510, for more information or to register. (No registration is required to attend.)

Charge Conference Report
| |
On December 5, we held our annual Charge Conference meeting at First United Methodist Church. We had an excellent turnout and it was a positive meeting.
We took some positive steps in our gathering. We have now adopted a Vision and Purpose Statement for our church. We also heard some highlights and some challenges for next year, and elected our 2012 leadership.
Below are links if you are interested in reading about some of the items.
