School Days...
A Note From David

David Headshot 2I remember from my childhood that feeling you would get about this time of year.  Sorrow of the summer being over; fear of what might happen during the year; and excitement because I'd be starting something new.

Well, it's that time of year again... time for school to get back into session.  For all of our students, parents, teachers, aids, administrators, and school helpers - we are praying for you!  We hope this will be a great year for all, and we are proud that people like you are having an influence on our kids.  We hope you will join us this Sunday as we do "Blessing of the Backpacks" at both services.

Even if you aren't school age - this is a change of season for us all.  At FUMC we are excited about this fall and the many things that are going on.  In the coming weeks you will be able to participate in a variety of opportunities designed to help move you closer to Christ.  We hope you will join us where and when you can.

As we get ready to crank things up - I hope you will also be praying with and for us.  There is incredible potential in this church just waiting to be released.  The only thing that will get in the way... is US!  Remember, the church is made up of people, and is only as vital and successful as we choose to make it.  So, let's make this a banner year... and you never know, we just might enjoy it too.

Yours in Christ,
David Payne
Sr. Pastor

Promotion Sunday and Fall "Kick-Off"
Sunday, September 12, 2010 @ 10:00 AM

FootballOn Sunday, September 12, we will hold a special "Kick-Off" for our Sunday School classes between services beginning at 10:00 am.  We will be recognizing our children and "promoting" them to their next grade level, and also providing information and fellowship for our Adult and Youth classes.  A special breakfast will be provided.

Our Sunday School hour is a great way to connect with people at church.  It gives you the chance to build your faith knowledge and relationships within our church body.  We hope people of ALL ages will join us for this special Sunday.

Wesley Nurse Health Awareness
August is Cataract Awareness Month

Cataracts are a clouding of the lens in the eye that affects vision.  Although most cataracts are related to aging, there are other types of cataracts:
Secondary Cataract- Cataracts can form after surgery for other eye problems, such as glaucoma.  Cataracts also can develop in people who have other health problems, such as diabetes.
Traumatic Cataract- Cataracts can develop after an eye injury, sometimes year later.
Congenital Cataract- Some babies are born with cataracts or develop them in childhood, often in both eyes.  These cataracts may be so small that they do not affect vision.  If they do, the lenses may need to be removed.
Radiation Cataract- Cataracts can develop after exposure to some types of radiation.
Irelia Rios, our Wesley Nurse will be in the Welcome Center Sunday, September 22.  Stop by to visit her for more information.
