Breakfast with The Papal Nuncio

Archbishop

Garcia-Siller

On November 23, 2010, San Antonio officially welcomed its new ordinary, Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller. His installation was a moving event with an overflow crowd of faithful and well-wishers. The following day CALL sponsored a private breakfast with Archbishop Pietro Sambi, the Papal Nuncio, as our special guest. Other guests included Archbishop Jose Gomez, Bishop Oscar Cantu, Bishop Octavio Cisneros, and Archbishop Christophe Pierre, The Papal Nuncio of Mexico.

The assembly of 25 people included Texas members, prospective members, and special guests.

Archbishop Sambi spoke to the group assembled and below are excerpts from his remarks:

Archbishop Sambi
Nowhere in the bible does the word "leader" appear. The bible speaks only of "servant" and CALL members, while leaders, are called to be "servant leaders." Let us not forget that the three things that make your efforts Catholic are: The Eucharist, the Blessed Mother, and the Holy Father.

You must always remember that the bible is the source of human wisdom as well as spiritual wisdom.

CALL must have a clear identity - and must be seen and known as Catholic. It must also have a clear sense of belonging and must demonstrate the best of community and the best of society.

CALL needs to be a community with a sense of belonging and this must be evident in all of your relationships: personal, familial, and professional.

CALL members must strive for excellence in faith, family, and work. Accordingly, the way for CALL to emerge is through exceptional quality - not quantity.

May God bless you and your family in this wonderful new year.

Our Mission Statement

To work within the context of our culture, and in communion with our bishops, to promote the well-being of the Latino cimmunity and the common good in the United States. This Catholic Association of Latino Leaders provides a forum for members to strengthen their faith through prayer, education and service. We commit to being a national voice for Hispanics on social justice issues and to impact the national dialogue and its outcome in favor of improving our nation's policies affecting Latinos.

Our ranks include leaders from varying business and professional backgrounds dedicated to transforming our lives and communities according to the Gospel, and speaking out on social and faith issues important to both the Catholic Church and Latinos. As such, we seek to not only be a part of a national dialogue on these important issues, but to be a force of influence on the outcome of such dialogues in ways tangible and relevant to our Church, communities and country.
