MESSAGE FROM RICK

Even though we've had a very mild winter, I am really looking forward to spring. As the days get longer and I warm up my golf clubs, I always get a renewed energy.

That energy applies to the work we are doing at RPA as well. We are seeing increased activity from clients across all industries. And, not surprising, a lot of interest in energy-saving initiatives.   As you will read later in this issue, I am pleased to be chairing the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE) new Energy Task Force. I strongly believe there is a positive impact the engineering profession can have by more strongly promoting energy efficiencies. If you have an interest in the work we will be doing, let me know.  Our hope is to solicit the support of all engineers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to provide a responsible approach to energy initiatives and policies within the state.

Something else that's new at RPA is our Client Feedback Initiative. At RPA, we pride ourselves in providing exceptional client service. But it has been a while since we actually took the time to ask our clients what they think. So, in the coming weeks we will begin to ask our clients for their candid feedback.   We will be randomly selecting clients and sending a brief survey. If you are selected, I hope you will take just a few quick minutes to complete the survey. Our relationship with each client is very important and we all want to be sure we are meeting, and exceeding, your expectations.

Along the same line, we are preparing for our Annual Employee Meeting where we recognize outstanding performance from our team. If you've had a positive, memorable experience with an RPA team member over the past year, we want to hear from you. See the article below for the link to the very short nomination form.

As you can see, there is a lot going on at RPA. As the temperatures continue to warm, I wish you, your family and your business a wonderful spring.

Rick Aulenbach

RPA ENGINEER'S PRESIDENT APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF PSPE ENERGY TASK FORCE

Richard P. Aulenbach, Jr., P.E., president and founder of RPA Engineering, a full-service engineering firm with 100 employees, has been named chairman of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE) Energy Task Force.

The new Energy Task Force was formed by the PSPE to promote efficient energy generation, distribution and utilization to serve the residents of Pennsylvania, the country and the environment.

"Mr. Aulenbach is deeply committed to efficient and renewable energy," said John D. Wanner, CAE, executive director of PSPE. "Through his firm and his career, he has implemented clean energy solutions for hundreds of projects in the United States and abroad. We are fortunate to have someone with his knowledge, experience and passion to help drive this important task force."

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT: BATCH MANUFACTURING PROCESS UPGRADES

A major Pennsylvania pharmaceutical company engaged RPA engineering to provide precise measurement control and process engineering for two major ingredients used in their final product. The client contacted John Weinheimer to introduce these products into the manufacturing processes. This engineering effort will involve designing distribution piping from the existing headers to the batch manufacturing tasks and coordination with the CIP processes. Highly sensitive mass flow meters will be required, as well as additional instrumentation, manual valves, and actuated valves. The overall control scheme will be updated to incorporate the new raw material delivery systems.

EMPLOYEE HIGHLIGHT: JOHN
WEINHEIMER, P.E.

John Weinheimer, P.E, Senior Project Manager, has worked in RPA's Wyomissing office for 16 years. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy for four years, until he was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant. John enjoys guiding and supporting projects from rough concepts through complete and functional operations or facilities, knowing his design team played a major role in the project's success.

John is a board member for the Reading Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE) and a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE). He has presented at Interphex at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. John frequently volunteers in the community, donating his time to inspire children interested in the math and engineering fields, including proctoring the annual Berk's County Mathcounts competition and presenting at the local high school's Career Day.

STERNER EARNS PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING LICENSE
David SternerDavid M. Sterner, Senior Electrical Engineer with RPA Engineering has earned his professional engineering license from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of State.

"We are very proud of David's hard work and deep personal commitment to his career," said Richard P. Aulenbach, PE, president and founder of RPA Engineering. "We encourage all of our engineers to take this important step, so that we may provide our customers with the highest quality of service and professionalism."

To earn a professional engineering license in Pennsylvania, engineers must complete a four-year degree in engineering from an accredited engineering program, pass a Fundamental Engineering (FE) exam, complete four years of progressive engineering experience under a professional engineer and pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam. To retain their licenses, engineers must continually maintain and improve their skills throughout their careers. All states regulate the practice of engineering to ensure public safety. Only licensed professional engineers are granted the authority to sign and seal engineering plans and offer their services to the public.
