If you want to save money on your household electric bills after the recent 30% increase in rates, one easy step is to replace the standard light bulbs that are used most frequently in your home.
For example: A 75 Watt incandescent flood light running 8 hours per day at an average rate of 13.7 Cents per Kilowatt-hour will cost the homeowner $30 in one year's time. If this is replaced with a 75 Watt CFL unit that uses only 20 watts of power in the same home the operating cost will be $8.00 per year. The cost of the bulbs is around $7.00, so the bulb will pay for itself in about 3 months.
Another alternative is LED flood bulbs, which cost around $64 each, with a payback closer to 2 years. These LED bulbs only use about 7 watts, but are supposed to last a minimum of 5 years.
Either option will provide you with monthly savings! |
