Greetings!

Welcome to AALHA News. Summer is drawing to a close, the kids are back in school, and we hope it's going to start cooling down soon. September is also the month AALHA members vote for their following year's Board of Directors. The space normally dedicated to our Home of the Month is being used to address this very important election.  If you have a comment or a question, please send it to   information@aalha.org. Thank you.
AALHA Board of Directors Annual Elections

AALHA MEMBERS:  Watch your mailbox for an AALHA envelope marked "AALHA ballot." Please read each nominee's bio, cast your vote for a total of 12 positions, and mail that ballot back to AALHA in the enclosed self-addressed envelope. Or bring your ballot to the September 28 meeting. If by mail, your ballot must be received PRIOR to September 28 to be considered. If you own more than one home, a maximum of two ballots may be submitted.

All successful organizations continually look for ways to improve and move forward. That means implementing new policies, procedures, and bringing new faces and ideas to its'  Board of Directors. Your current Board is very excited about the new faces running for the 2012 Board. New people means new ideas and new ideas means more forward progress.

Every vote counts. This is YOUR time to participate in YOUR organization.

A Recap of Central Arizona Chapter August Forum

The education session was presented by Martha Alderman, of the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services. Martha's presentation provided excellent information for AALHA members - information which you can use to help your residents (and their families) find possible additional funding for their long term care. If anyone would like a copy of Martha's handout, please send an email to Linda at admin@aalha.org.

August is the month AALHA accepts nominations for the coming year's Board of Directors. Those candidates present were introduced and given a few minutes to tell the audience about themselves. The votes will be counted and your 2012 Board of Directors will be announced at the September 28 meeting.

A Recap of Southern Arizona Chapter August Forum

We are excited about the potential for our new chapter. Each month more people attend and we learn more about how AALHA can help those in the southern Arizona area. Joanna Mitchell (AALHA President-elect) led a discussion about the recent DHS letter regarding emergency preparedness and evacuation plans. It was a very informative discussion for care homes and providers alike. Please see the September meeting announcement above, for information on our September meeting. Please invite other care home owners and managers - as well as providers - to these monthly meetings to introduce others to AALHA.

Get the Skin on Skin Breakdown

The skin is our outer layer of protection from many environmental stresses. In addition, it assists in regulating our body temperature and other body functions. Protecting and maintaining healthy skin for your residents is important. As we age, the skin becomes thinner, less elastic, and frequently drier. In addition, the healing process tends to be slower. Therefore, residents should be observed regularly for signs of skin breakdown. And, steps should be implemented to reduce your residents' exposure to skin breakdown to lessen further damage.

For your FREE Copy of Get the Skin on Skin Breakdown, including sample policies, procedures, stages and assessments, please e-mail Kathi@pcalic.com, visit our website: www.pcalic.com or call 1-800-673-2558.
