Home of the Month: Sierra Montana Assisted Living
Sierra Montana Assisted Living is family owned and operated. My husband (Chad) and I (Cassie) opened Sierra Montana in November 2010, and we are joint owners with Dave and Cindy Irish. I am the managing partner/owner and a licensed caregiver. Our team consists of six caregivers. Evie (my mother-in-law) is our live-in primary caregiver. Chad is currently serving overseas in Afghanistan, so I am the "go to" person for our home.
We opened this home because of my father, Marcus Green. Dad committed suicide in 2009, while he was living in Mississippi. He was severely depressed, and no longer wanted to be a burden to his family. He thought his only way out was to take his own life. Our aim is to provide a high level of care and a strong support system that will prevent anyone else from ever feeling as though they are a burden, all alone or just left somewhere to pass on.
Chad and I did all of the leg work to transform our former residence to meet the codes of assisted living. We really focused on ensuring that our home stayed as a "home." Sierra Montana is special because it is small and quaint. It looks, feels and smells like your home! Every room has a warm and comfortable feeling. There are very few care homes in our community, and none like ours. Some families have been referred to us on our location alone.
The core value of Sierra Montana is Family First. This is what our residents become when they reside at Sierra Montana.

A Recap of Central Arizona Chapter June Forum
Thirty-two people braved the 110+ heat to attend the meeting - thank you everyone.
Attorney Juan Pablo Zaragoza, from Braun Siler Kruzel PC, presented the education segment. Mr. Zaragoza offered some very interesting and valuable information for business owners. The presentation was titled "Closely Held Businesses-Liability and Succession Issues." A couple of topics he touched on were the various ways a company can be organized, how to plan for the exit of an owner (or partner), and how to maintain liability protection for the business. Attendees were taking lots of notes. Thank you, Juan, for sharing this information with us. To contact Mr. Zaragoza: 480-951-8044 or jpzaragoza@bskaslaw.com.
If anyone wishes a copy of Juan's handout, please contact Linda at admin@aalha.org.

A word from our sponsor:
Don't Take The Fall....
The older a person gets, the more likely they are to fall. A fall can be devastating for an elderly person.Their independence is threatened and a short term or permanent impairment of mobility can happen. They may no longer be able to stay in assisted living and have to go to skilled care. Or, depending on the severity of the injuries, death may occur.
There are steps you can take and tools you can use to provide a safer environment for your resident. You can also teach your staff how to prevent falls and safeguard each resident.
The short and long term effects of falls on residents are obvious and can be devastating. The short and long term effects on your organization are equally obvious and devastating.

AALHA is Branching Out!
The AALHA Board of Directors is pleased to announce the formation of our new Southern Arizona Chapter. The first meeting of this new chapter was held on Tuesday, June 14. Thank you to Allyn Nock, owner of BrightStar Tucson/Sierra Vista, for hosting the meeting and providing cookies. Sixteen people attended this first meeting. From it, AALHA gained two new care home owners and one new associate member. The meeting was an informal introduction to AALHA - to answer any questions participants had regarding our organization. The majority of those attending said they would attend the July meeting and invite others. If you are located (or do business) in the southern Arizona area, we encourage you to attend the next meeting. Refer to AALHA's July Monthly Forums (above) or our Events Calendar at www.AALHA.org, for details.
