Home of the Month -Dream Catcher

and Dream Catcher at Paradise Heights

Gaile and MichaelGaile and Michael Dixon's Dream Catcher Assisted Living Home would not exist if not for Gaile's Great Aunt Mary.  A native of Phoenix, Aunt Mary lived a vivacious life in Arizona and California.  In her later years, however, she was stricken with dementia. As a result, Gaile, already dissatisfied with corporate life, chose to re-direct her life, and created an assisted living environment for Mary that would give the care, respect and dignity she deserved. The Dixon's found a nine bedroom home in Scottsdale, and in 1999, opened Dream Catcher Assisted Living Home.  The following year, Gaile was appointed by the governor to the NCIA Board of Examiners and then to the Arizona Chapter of the Assisted Living Federation of America Board of Directors.  Today, she serves on the Professional Advisory Committee of Aunt MaryHospice of Arizona.  In 2008, Gaile was brought in to close down a facility in east Scottsdale.  Instead of closing the facility, Gaile took it over. Within six months had Dream Catcher at Paradise Heights running at capacity.  As a result in 2009, Gaile was named the Arizona Assisted Living Federation of America Manager of the Year, and her on-site Supervisor Pamela Vance was named 2009 Caregiver of the Year.

For more information about Dream Catcher, 5449 E. Crocus Dr.,  and Dream Catcher at Paradise Heights12035 E. Mountain View (both in Scottsdale), contact Gaile at 602-410-6671 or visit the Dream Catcher website.

A Recap of AALHA's March Forum

As all of you should know, if you don't renew your manager's license by June 30, 2011, your certificate expires. Mr. Allen Imig, of the NCIA Board of Examiners was our speaker, and he and provided some excellent information for our members. Allen's handout offered a lot of good information, including the following tips, called "The Big Things First: What are the big things needed to renew."

  • 24 hours of Board approved continuing education
  • A valid fingerprint clearance card
  • Statement of citizenship and supporting document (if not a US Citizen or permanent resident)
  • Renewal fee of $150

If you were not at the meeting and would like a copy of Allen's handout, please send your request to admin@aalha.com.

Our forum sponsor was Mobile Dentistry. Ann Benson spoke about the benefits of Mobile Dentistry and how they can assist your residents with continuing dental care. Thank you Ann and Steve Laughary for the tasty refreshments.

A word from our sponsor:

BIG Savings for Assisted Living Homes in AZ

Often we look at savings as financial and rightly so in today's economy. However, we shouldn't forget that many things including  saving time, reduced stress, etc., can ultimately equivocate to saving money.  You don't want to miss these savings.  Not only can you SAVE MONEY, time and stress; you can save your business.  Personal Care & Assisted Living Insurance Center (PCALIC, LLC) has been working with AALHA to bring members a customized insurance program available Exclusively to members of AALHA.  Your membership in AALHA entitles you to special discounted rates for General Liability, Professional Liability, Abuse Liability and insurance for your building and contents.  But, it doesn't stop there. With the Guardian Insurance PAK, you also receive password access to an arsenal of Best Practice and Risk Management Tools at  www.pcalic.com.  These tools have been known to reduce (and in some cases eliminate) a lawsuit or other type of insurance claim, ultimately saving you and your staff time, stress, and money!  For more information and to get your FREE Report on Crisis Management call PCALIC at 1-800-673-2558 today.PCALIC Logo
