Sepsis in elderly individuals can have lasting impact
Sepsis is a medical emergency in which an infection overwhelms the body. Unless antibiotics and life support are delivered quickly, the condition can lead to organ failure and death. Most of those who recover do so gratefully and move on with their lives. However, elderly people who survive a bout of sepsis may not be so lucky.

DUES REMINDER AND INCENTIVE!
Remember that your AALHA dues are payable in January, however, there is plenty of reason to pay in December. Those who renew their membership in December will receive two tickets to the Spring Conference on March 8, 2011. If you wait until January, you will only receive one ticket. Those who fail to renew by January31, 2011 will be dropped from the membership rolls and will have to re-apply.
If you know anyone who might be interested in becoming a member, invite them to the Holiday Social on December 8. If they join at the social, they will receive a special gift in addition to the conference tickets!

RENEWAL APPLICATIONS NOW ONLINE
Assisted Living facilities in Arizona now have the ability to renew their ADHS licenses through the internet, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. ADHS created the system to ease the renewal process for centers and homes. To register, only the license number and expiration date are needed before going to the website
https://app.azdhs.gov/ls/renewal/.
The online system allows current license holders to register. Once registered, users can access a prefilled form, make needed changes, pay immediately with a credit card and print the renewal confirmation. Facilities which prefer to use a company or cashiers' check may print a completed form from the website and mail it with
the fee to the Department.
New facilities must still follow the paper application process. Simply call theAssisted Living Licensing Office and staff will send you an application which clearly outlines the process and requirements.

Tip of the Month When washing clothes, use less water by running full loads. In addition, approximately 80 percent of the energy used by washing machines heats water, so by using cold water and cold water detergents you can cut a load's energy use in half. - Source: U.S. Department of Energy...
If you have a tip that can be used by your fellow operators, send it along to us and we will give you all the credit!
