Dear City-County Council members: Councilman Jose Evans has announced he will present an ordinance to boycott Arizona at the June 28 City-County Council meeting. The Indianapolis Star quoted Evans as saying, "To pass legislation that enables law enforcement officers to harass, question and detain our citizens because they are suspected of being an illegal immigrant is blatantly wrong." His statement "blatantly" misrepresents Arizona's SB 1070. I do not understand why the council would want to insert itself into another state's business. However, if Mr. Evans' ordinance is given serious consideration, I would urge council members to inform themselves about what the bill really says. To that end, I include a link where you can read SB1070 and compare it to pertinent portions of the federal law. Also included at this link is a NY Times article by law professor Kris Kobach in which he addresses the main concerns about the Arizona legislation. http://www.ifire.org/phpbb3b/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1910 I urge the council not to boycott Arizona. You are probably aware that the Bloomington City Council recently decided to boycott Arizona. This has resulted in a counter-boycott against Bloomington. The Bloomington Chamber of Commerce has asked the Bloomington City Council to rescind its boycott so it will not harm local businesses. Recent polls indicate that over 63% of Hoosiers approve of Arizona's legislation. Most Hoosiers want Indiana to pass similar immigration enforcement measures. Sincerely, (your name)

Dear IFIRE Activist: In response to the Arizona immigration enforcement legislation, many cities have taken it upon themselves to enact ordinances calling for the boycott of anything made in Arizona or any conference that will take place in that state. I can't believe we have Americans calling for boycotts of Americans! Arizona is well within its rights to enforce immigration law according to the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1996 ( 287g ) signed by Bill Clinton. In mid-May, Bloomington, Indiana passed their own Arizona boycott ordinance. Lately, I wonder. If Indiana had passed its own version of Arizona's law, would Bloomington be boycotting products and services from Indiana? I hope many of you took time out of you busy day to tell the city council of Bloomington they were out of line to try to punish Arizona, a state besieged by illegal aliens, drug violence and kidnappings. It looks like the Indianapolis City-County Council may take up its own boycott Arizona ordinance in the coming weeks, and we are calling on you to take action to stop it! We at IFIRE have listed the names and contact info to the City-County Council to make it easier for you to ask them to stop this insanity and tell them you would like to see them enforce illegal immigration laws, instead of boycotting states that do. I have one request from you, the members of IFIRE. Please let us know ASAP whenever illegal immigration issues arise in your community, be they boycott ordinances or illegal aliens looking to obtain a liquor license. We like to be pro-active on the illegal immigration front in Indiana but if something took place two or three weeks ago, we can't be effective in stopping the illegal alien invasion. We need you to be more active and please tell your friends. The bigger we get, the louder we get. Thank you, activist!
