The uproar over the Arizona law continues to grow and it's time everyone voices their concerns about illegal immigration. On the federal level, our two candidates for Senate have a history of immigration votes. Senator Ellsworth is very much against amnesty and has an immigration voting record of "A" from Americans for Better Immigration. Former Senator Coats has earned an "F-" from Americans for Better Immigration. Senator Coats has mentioned he is against amnesty but with his talk of earned citizenship I am not so sure where he stands. I have called both of their offices for clarification and am waiting for replies. In Indiana, our state legislature has tried for the past five years to get some sort of illegal alien legislation passed into law without success.
Last session, Senator Delph proposed SB 213. It passed the Indiana Senate 46-4, but was again killed in the House by Speaker Pat Bauer from South Bend. SB 213 contained language to deny illegal aliens unemployment compensation and would have allowed police departments statewide to detain illegal aliens until DHS arrived and removed them for deportation. It would also have made it mandatory for all employers seeking state contracts to use E-Verify on all their employees before receiving a taxpayer-funded contract. Whether you're a Democrat or Republican, you need to tell our state and federal legislators that AMNESTY is NOT an option and we want our immigration laws enforced on the state and federal level. Call Dan Coats office at 317-251-2200 and demand he support enforcement over amnesty if he wins the Senate seat in November. The contact info for Democratic Speaker of the Indiana House Pat Bauer is h6@in.gov or the switchboard is 1-800-382-9841. Contact information for all Indiana federal lawmakers is contained here: http://ifire.org/phpbb3b/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1802 and they need to hear from you. Keep Active!
