Welcome to the August 2011 edition of our monthly email news and information source for Wheatland Presbyterian Church. Through this newsletter we hope to provide you with the information that you need to keep you informed and engaged in life here at Wheatland.
Our prayer is that you will find Wheatland to be a place where we proclaim Christ and his gospel to each other and our community through our worship and our work.

Ordinary Christianity
Join us for corporate worship on Sunday mornings at 8am or 10:45am as we look together at the Central Things that define our life together.
Pub Night
Church Picnic
Come one, come all to an evening of fun, food, and fellowship on August 6th at Millersville's Freedom Memorial Park (behind John Herr's grocery store off Rt. 999). The fun and fellowship are from 4-8:30pm with food served at 5:00. Bring a covered dish to share, your tennis rackets, ball gloves, frisbees, board games, and a friend or neighbor. Hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, plates, and flatware are provided. Invite friends and family. Sign-up in the Lobby or by contacting the Church Office (info@wheatlandpca.org or 392.5909).
New ESV Pew Bibles
Help the Church purchase new ESV pew Bibles. For an excellent article explaining the rationale for purchasing these Bibles, please see the August issue of "This Month at Wheatland." Purchase as many as you wish. The cost, including shipping, will be approximately $9.50 per black hardback Bible. If you don't already have an ESV in your home and would like one, consider giving $19.00 to get one for you and one for the Church. OR, if you would like a paperback version for your home, give $12.00 to purchase a paperback for you and a hardback for the pews. Make sure you clearly delineate your preferences along with your check, made out "Wheatland Presbyterian Church," with "pew Bibles" in the check's memo section. |

Regional Care Groups
Our Care Groups are designed to enfold you into the life of Wheatland and the community in which you live. We have divided our city and the outlying areas into regional districts. There are groups that meet in each "field". Our worship together each Sunday morning is the most important thing we do, but if you are a regular attendee or member here at Wheatland, these gatherings enrich and enliven our worship together by strengthening our love and care for one another. Check the church website to find out who your Care Group Leader is and when your group meets. Questions? Email Assoc. Pastor Luke Le Duc.

We are studying the book of 1 John to discover the biblical answer to, "How do you know you are a Christian?" 2011 Women in the Church International Conference
October 7-9, 2011 · Atlanta, Georgia
The theme for this conference is a grand and glorious look at the full orbed grace of God in our lives - Amazing Grace 360! Stay connected to the conference, by using the CEP website
www.AmazingGrace360.com to see the full faculty of gifted men and women whom God is raising up to lead and teach us. We are encouraging girls 13 years and up to attend.
Nancy Guthrie, a gifted teacher, writer, and conference speaker will serve as the Conference teacher. Worship and music will be led by Kevin Twit of Indelible Grace and Laura Story. The preacher for this year's event will be Brian Habig, pastor of the Downtown Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina, and former Reformed University Minister.
It's a time to rehearse the scope and surety of God's grace in our lives, to come together as this portion of His body to worship, learn, celebrate, anticipate, and focus on His eternal grace to and in us. |

Food Bank To meet the community's food needs, the Deaconate collects food on the 2nd Sunday of each month for our congregation, for Water Street Rescue Mission, and for the Landisville Food Bank. Bring in non-perishable household or food items and place them in the Lobby. Needed items are canned meat, one-can meals, vegetables, shampoo, hand soap, toilet paper, and laundry detergent.
Making Room for Our Guests If you regularly come to the 2nd service, you probably notice that our Sanctuary is pretty full. To make room for our guests, you might consider a switch to the early service. And if you do come to the 2nd service, please consider parking in the overflow lot if you are able (1059 Columbia Ave.; turn in by the Dr. Scott Creisher & Associates sign), so that there are plenty of parking spaces for our guests. Thank you for serving in these ways! |

Care for International Students
American Home Life International (AHLI) is seeking Christian host families to provide loving, caring homes for international students coming to America. There is an urgent need to find homes for three Asian teenage boys who will attend Lancaster County Christian School for the 2011-2012 school year. The students speak English, and require their own private rooms and three meals a day. There is a monthly stipend to cover the cost of hosting. If interested in this unique family ministry, or if you want to know more, please contact Home-Stay Coordinator Michelle Stangl (484.459.9093).
Missionary of the Month
Dave and Esther Miller (and their son Ben) serve in Chile with World Harvest Mission. The Millers Praise God for continued support from Wheatland Church and send "abrazos grandes a todos" (big hugs to everyone).
-
Dave Miller and teammate Chip Jones teach a Tuesday class on Gospel Transformation with 2 elders and 2 Pastors. Dave requests prayer that God would move powerfully in his heart as he leads these guys to a deeper understanding of the Gospel. - Pray for Pastor Jose now under church discipline. At the request of the National Pres. Church of Chile, Dave has moved into a counseling relationship with Pastor Jose and his family, and the 2 churches he leads. Pray that the Gospel would become great news to all involved. Praise God for humility and openness in Jose, and in his daughter Sara.
- Pray for Ben's friend Alonzo to see Jesus as he spends time with their family. Praise God for his friendship with Ben.
- Pray that Humberto, an unemployed real estate broker, would know Jesus as his all in all. Praise God for his openness to the Gospel.
- Praise God for open relationships with their teammates, and their love for the Millers.
- Pray for Esther to be able to bless the women in the Monday "sewing circle."
- Continue to pray for their language acquisition (especially understanding what is said in Spanish). Pray against miscommunication.
- Pray for their efforts at "belt tightening" and raising additional support-due to the hard economic times in the US and the falling dollar.

| Sunday at the Park | |
Sunday at the Park is an informal gathering announced at different times throughout the year. It is an opportunity, always weather permitting, to gather with your church family after Sunday Worship to enjoy a picnic lunch (or picked-up lunch!) at Buchanan Park (just a half mile from the church). Any and all are invited. Bring your own lunch and a blanket or chairs to sit on. There is a playground, as well as plenty of space to throw a football, baseball, or frisbee. Get to know other Wheatlanders while enjoying the beauty of creation in our backyard. Be a presence in our community while modeling biblical community. Our next Sunday at the Park is scheduled for Sunday, August 21st. Meet at the playground area. Invite someone to join you. We hope to see you there! | |

Growing at Wheatland
| |
Our life together here at Wheatland is intended to grow us all up into maturity in faith and life. One of the ways we believe this happens is through intentional discipleship with one another. Are you intentionally pursuing growth in grace in this community that God has placed you? If you are interested in coming together with 2 or 3 other people for this type of focused study, contact
