BOARDnewlogo vertThe 2013 Board of Directors
Service on The Pyramid Society's Board of Directors is truly a job which demands a great deal of time, effort, and sacrifice. We are pleased to have this opportunity to honor three members of the Board of Directors whose terms will be completed as of November 1, 2012.

Henry Metz, Silver Maple Farm, Santa Ynez, CA - Henry has served as the Society's President for the past eight years, guiding us forward and providing countless hours of outstanding leadership. As a past President, Henry will now become a Pyramid Society Trustee, ever tasked with protecting the best interests of The Society and its membership and upholding the legacy of the Straight Egyptian Arabian horse.

Dr. M. Kent Mayfield, Second Wind Egyptian Arabian Bloodstock, Dodgeville, WI - Kent has most recently served as chair of The Society's Education Committee, spearheading the organization of educational programs at The Egyptian Event, assisting in creating a presence for The Pyramid Society at various national events, and coordinating efforts for the National Breeders' Conference.

Jennifer Parsons, Etaya Egyptian Stud, Victoria Harbour, ON - Jennifer joined the Board after serving for several years as a Regional Representative to Canada. She has since offered her time and service in numerous successful fundraising efforts on behalf of the Society. She and her husband Chris also worked to establish the Amal Bukra Perpetual Trophy and cash award for high-scoring youth at The Egyptian Event.

By recommendation of the Nominating Committee and with unanimous Board approval, Henry will be succeeded as President by current Vice President, Bob Miars of Miars Arabian Ranch in Murchison, TX. Becky Rogers of Kehilan Arabians in Fort Worth, TX, will become Vice President. Bridgette Orwig of Pure Gold Arabians in Hogansville, GA, will continue to serve as Secretary, and Majid Alsayegh of Al Majid Arabians in Douglasville, PA, will continue to serve as Treasurer.

Welcome to the Board
The Nominating Committee has also recommended, with the Board's unanimous approval, the appointment of Keri Wright of Cariswood Arabians in Sandy, UT, to serve on The Pyramid Society Board of Directors with a term beginning November 1, 2012.

We are pleased to welcome Keri to the Board and to announce his impending appointment as Chair of the Education Committee. We hope you'll take this opportunity to learn a bit more about Keri and his vision. CLICK HERE TO KEEP READING...

 EEPROFILE2012 EGYPTIAN EVENT GOLD SPONSOR
Crooked Creek Arabians, Arkansas

Crooked Creek Arabians, located in Austin, Arkansas, was started by owners Jan and Hubert Alexander in 2007 after purchasing their first purebred Arabian. Jan's love of horses stems from her childhood when her family owned Quarter horses. As a teen she showed her quarter horse in barrels and rode the trails of rural Arkansas on a daily basis. Years later, after spending time at Ansata Stud and Hope Farm in Arkansas, Jan got a real glimpse at Egyptian bloodlines, and it was decided that Crooked Creek would concentrate its efforts in Straight Egyptians.

Crooked Creek currently has 20 horses, with the majority being Straight Egyptian Arabians. Horses descend from notable Straight Egyptian Stallions: Thee Desperado, Tammen, HF Ares, Imperial Mistaar, True Colours, Richter MH, and Gatsby CC. Crooked Creek is standing two of their stallions at this time, Thee Halima B (pictured right) and HF El Jalal. Halima's first foal was everything they hoped for and was Top Ten in World Class Fillies at the 2012 Egyptian Event. Jalal has been bred for the first time this year, and they are expecting two foals in 2013. Crooked Creek also grows and sells Bermuda grass hay.

Crooked Creek Arabians generously supports the Pyramid Society because the love and promotion of Straight Egyptian Arabians is paramount. Jan's first Egyptian Event experience was the 2008 Egyptian Event, where she brought two horses to show. She enjoyed the festival atmosphere of the show then and has enjoyed going every time since. She loves meeting new people and seeing great horses...

H. Frank Sutton - A-Ali Egyptian Stud, Howell, MI

"...we are like one big family!"

Our September Member Spotlight highlights H. Frank Sutton of A-Ali Egyptian Stud in Howell, MI, who recalls the purchase of his first Arabian horse in 1982 from Marie Douglass of Douglas Manor Arabians in Flat Rock, Michigan...

"I spent the next two years studying the history of the Arabian horse," writes Frank, "I learned how to ground train my two year old colt, and when he turned three I started bareback training. Within about four months I had him doing figure eights without any equipment - just DM Elyus and me having a grand time!"

Marie Douglass and her son Clark were the first to introduce Sutton to Straight Egyptian horses, and shortly thereafter he attended his first Egyptian Event with them in 1984. "The horses that really caught my attention, including Jamill and *Ansata Ibn Halima, have made their mark on this industry. It was a very exciting show, one that I will never forget."

These horses have also made a mark on Frank's breeding philosophy. Some of his favorite bloodlines for stallions include Shaikh Al Badi, *Ansata Ibn Halima, Ansata Nile Pasha and Ibn El Mareekh, and for dams, Bint Maisa El Sahira, Mona Dena, SES Legacy Tarika and *Gamila.

Still, after encountering his first Egyptian Arabians, a few years went by before Frank established the foundations of his stud. It happened when he met Patterson and Sherry Moseley while vacationing in Florida. "I was very impressed with their horses and ultimately purchased six horses from them, including the great Ali Reshan...

A & D Arabians Announces Kamal Ibn Adeed's First Foals!

Soufian was followed at Al Badia by Kamal's first daughter, Hala Al Badia (pictured left), who Laurie Schmelzle reports as having "one of the prettiest heads they've ever had on their farm."

On August 18 and 19th, 2012, in the Santa Ynez Valley of California, Silver Maple Farm put on their second "Fun Summer Gathering." Hosts and owners Christie and Henry Metz created a template for putting on a "Gathering" that breeders or owners everywhere could emulate...
