Lady Anne Blunt,
A Biography
First Edition
by HVF Winstone
Explore the story of Lady Anne Blunt, the first European woman to have made a recorded journey to Central Arabia! Lady Anne Blunt traveled with her husband through the Nafud Desert to Nejd, and along the way she sketched, painted and wrote as they confronted the dangers of the desert.
According to history, the crowning achievement of Lady Anne Blunt's life was the rescue of the Arab horse from near extinction. She went on to establish the famous Crabbet Arabian Stud in England, and was also instrumental in translating the verse of some pre-Islamic Arabian writers.
In this, the first and only biography of Lady Anne Blunt, HVF Winstone draws extensively from unpublished diaries and letters to produce an illuminating portrait of a talented, determined, and visionary woman. First edition printing - quantities are limited.

THE 2012 EGYPTIAN BREEDERS' CHALLENGE
When The Pyramid Society instituted the EBC in 1996, we saw it as a fulfillment of our mission. 60 EBC Champions later, the Egyptian Breeders' Challenge is still producing standout breedings, succeeding across generations in the preservation and perpetuation of the Straight Egyptian horse and its unparalleled type.
But this year, we're taking the promotion of Straight Egyptian bloodlines, the EBC, and your Stallions to the next level by offering a presence for the EBC in our 2012 Stallion Guide, as well as representation at the Scottsdale All Arabian Horse Show in February and the Arabian Breeders World Cup in Las Vegas in April. In addition, we're putting together a targeted E-Marketing campaign for the EBC, and we're integrating profiles for EBC Stallions into our new website design!
The Pyramid Society is committed to affording the Straight Egyptian horse greater visibility and exposure this year than ever before. For more information on getting your Stallion enrolled, please get in touch with us directly at (859) 231-0771 or by sending an email to info@pyramidsociety.org.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Mary Ellen Chavez - Sonrisa Farms
"I enjoy being a part of The Pyramid Society because it is filled with people who love, cherish, and promote this unique animal with a passion equal to my own"
For our October Member Spotlight, we head to Sonrisa Farms in Los Lunas, NM, where Mary Ellen Chavez recounts her journey into the world of Straight Egyptian breeding. She writes, "The vivid history of the Straight Egyptian Arabian Horse originally ignited the passion that has been a part of me for the past 17 years. I have always been passionate about horses, and for that I can blame first, my Grandfather, and second, Walter Farley. My Grandfather loved his horses and gave me the opportunity to interact with them as a young child. After his passing when I was 7 years old, all of his horses were sold, which left a big emptiness in me that was only filled by reading about everything to do with horses. I can honestly attribute my love for the Arabian to Walter Farley and The Black Stallion books. Reading those books is what brought me through my horseless years and kept the embers in my heart burning for the Arabian horses I knew I would someday possess." HAF Allieena+/ Wins Ontario Championship Endurance Race - Millbrook, ON
HAF Allieena+/ (Royal Jalliel x Imperial Nasreena), owned and ridden by Michelle Bignell of Cayuse Creek Ranch, Millbrook, Ontario, Canada, recently won the Ontario Championship 50 mile Endurance Race held on October 3, 2011 at Mansfield, Ontario. "Leena," as she is affectionately known, took the lead after the first 2 miles and never looked back. Despite a fallen tree which delayed her for 15 minutes until the competition caught up to help move the tree, she finished a full half hour ahead of the second place horse.
Leena has completed 39 of her 40 endurance races and has also won the Middle Eastern Ceremonial Saddle at the Pyramid Challenge twice. Also in the top ten at this championship race were the Straight Egyptians Shameen (Safeen x Bint El Shams) and Kharringtonn (Alaa Khaleef x Tsea Bint Deenara). Joyous News from Polly Knoll - Beaver Dam, WI
Polly Knoll of Beaver Dam, WI reports, "My trip the end of September took me to Winchester, VA., where my grandson, Dustin Westenmeyer married his fiance, Megan Fletcher (also a horseman). During an outdoor ceremony, the beautiful bride was preceded by 10-month-old Ava, my great grandchild, sitting in the competition cart used by my daughter, Jan, and pulled by a champion Swiss Mountain Dog. Ava smiled and waved, and everyone oohed and aahed."
Hopefully, a photo of this scene will be coming soon! In the meantime, we extend our congratulations to Dustin and Megan. Polly is a seasoned Arabian horse photographer and the author of " Treasures of a Lifetime," available now in The Pyramid Society Marketplace.
