2012 NV Dream Tags Fund 10 Reclamation Projects
Water guzzlers enlarged, Pinon and Juniper encroachment cleared and seeds for land charred in recent wild fires are some of the 10 habitat improvement projects paid for this month from the Dream Tags fund. Funded projects were submitted by sportsmen groups, nonprofit organizations and governmental agencies.
A hearty "thank you" to all who purchased Dream Tags raffle tickets during our inaugural round. Because of you, $167,000 is going "on the ground" for wildlife habitat restoration and improvement projects.
It would NOT have been possible without the Dream Tags program.
Every $5 you spent on a raffle ticket supports these projects, and we have a reserve to address emergency projects as well.
Because of you, our Nevada wildlife habitat will receive care so it can sustain the life that calls this land home. That is a lot of impact for your $5 chance for a hunt of a lifetime.
Visit NVDreamTag.org to see each of the 10 projects funded and learn how you can buy your 2013 Dream Tags chances.

The Scholastic Gateway Charitable Fund has a specific mission - to raise money to provide much needed technology for schools and deserving students. After forming the Scholastic Gateway Charitable Fund, Konner selected a group of advisors who have experience in education and in philanthropy.
Over the last nine months, with the guidance of a Board of Advisors, Konner has raised more than $30,000. Konner intends to raise over $75,000 this year. His ultimate goal is to raise $2,000,000.

Exciting Time and New Focus for Community Foundation Highlighted at 2012 Annual Meeting
 | |
Keynote Speaker, John Chapman with Chris Askin and Linda Smith |
John Chapman, Former President of the East Bay Foundation alerted the audience at the 2012 annual meeting to a change in focus for the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.
Mr. Chapman led the East Bay Foundation as it tackled the long standing and major problem of quality of life in its region. Residents could not afford to purchase houses, farm lands were plowed under to make way for suburbs and strip malls were neglected and vacant.
The East Bay Foundation worked for 17 years, bringing together farmers and builders, residents and stakeholders from all walks of community life to make a plan that increased livability and raise the large funds needed to address the issue. He suggests that now is the time for the Community Foundation of Western Nevada to step up to its role as convener and community leader.
"We are familiar with the narrower role of foundations - partnering with donors to distribute their charitable resources effectively in accordance with their goals & objectives. My suggestion to you is that this is an important role, but community foundations have huge unrealized potential beyond this.
A terrific role for community foundations is the convening role.
