2011 High School Giving Circle Granted $10,000 to Inspire and Transform Lives.

The 9 local nonprofit organizations that received a portion of the High School Giving Circle $10,000 grant budget demonstrated to the students in a proposal review that their money would help make lasting changes in the lives they touch. Working as a group they chose four priorities for their grants: education, poverty, pets, and foster services.

Here is a list of the nonprofit organizations and projects funded:

Bruka Theater to pay for two 2012 performances of Hansel and Gretel at the Downtown Reno and Sparks Libraries

Children's Cabinet received $1,500 to purchase  "apartments in a bag" for the Independent Living program helping kids transitioning out of Foster Care.

Family Promise: to buy diapers for homeless clients and pay for replacement ID documents to enable them to secure work.

For Pets' Sake: to help defray expenses for special-needs animals.

Northern Nevada International Center: to support the 2012 Everything's Global Summit at UNR, April 18, 2012. This event will host a variety of speakers and panel discussions regarding the increasingly global nature of our lives.

Reno Rodeo Foundation:to support 1 person in VIPS ( Vocation-Inspiration-Performance- Success), a life and career coaching program for aging-out foster youth.

Shakespeare Animal Fund: to help low-income seniors in our community pay for vet care for their beloved pets.

Sierra Nevada Journeys: for camperships this summer.

Solace Tree: to purchase supplies for 2012 Camp Solace.

The second CGA will eventually pay for youth  substance abuse treatment in the Carson Valley.

Your thoughtfulness will shine in Nevada forever.

The Community Foundation of Western Nevada serves the nonprofit community by holding Charitable Gift Annuities that will benefit organizational endowments at the Foundation.
