Donor Central Makes It Easy for You to Help a Menagerie

A Community Foundation fundholder recently learned that a few clicks is all it takes to help a myriad of animal rescue groups. In a matter of seconds one of our donor advisors made six grants to different animal rescue organizations in Nevada and California.  By connecting and granting through the Community Foundation of Western Nevada Donor Central you can grant from your fund simply and quickly any time day or night.

Donor Central is the newest addition to Community Foundation services. Fundholders can access their charitable fund statements and make grants from their fund online at anytime.

The great advantage is, for many fundholders who are regular supporters of a variety of organizations, repeat grants can be made in one click.

A popular feature of Donor Central is the Grant Suggestion area. If you are a friend to the area's homeless animals you can see a list of rescue groups the Foundation has worked with to consider for your own grantmaking.

DonorCentral makes staying in touch with your philanthropy simple and convenient. When you have the inclination and time to discuss your charitable passions and delve a little deeper into your grant making, call us. We love to hear from you and enjoy working with you to create a giving plan that enriches your life as it builds our community.

$20,000 total Match offered for Your Partnership Grant Contributions through Nevada's Big Give.

The Community Foundation will be participating in Nevada's  Big Give to raise money for our Partnership Grant Program. For one day only, November 17, you can contribute to the Partnership Program through Nevada's Big Give and your gift will be matched to a total of $20,000.

Two fundholders at the Community Foundation are putting up a match to your gift because they believe and support the Partnership Grant program. They invite you to partner with us.  This is your chance to join with your neighbors and friends and be part of the Foundation's premier grant program.

In 2011 the Community Foundation supported 20 nonprofit organizations through Partnership grants totaling over $100,000. We hope to increase the number of nonprofits winning grants next year.

Our community's need is great, the nonprofit work is admirably up to the challenge, and your gift will be doubled by a one-day-only match!  This is the time to join with us. Mark your calendars for Thursday November 17 to contribute to the Partnership Grant Program through Nevada's Big Give.

2010 High School GIving Circle in session
19 Students from Diverse Schools Join 2011 High School Giving Circle

Every Wednesday afternoon the Foundation office hums with young energy and bodies.
19 students from area high schools including Rainshadow Charter High School, Davidson Academy, The School of Life from the Children's Cabinet, SageRidge School, Hug, McQueen and Reno high schools make themselves comfortable around the conference table or on the floor of our front room. Tracy Turner guides them in a discussion about charity, community and group dynamics.

The talk is candid.

What is important to you?  What do you want to see changed in your neighborhood? How can grants to arts and environmental organizations help education and human service concerns? How can we come to agreement about our priorities?

For 10 weeks these students will meet to learn from one another and interview directors and experts in nonprofit fields. In December they do the hard work of dividing $10,000 into grants to reflect their circle's charitable passions.

Thanks to a generous fundholder at the Community Foundation this  year's Giving Circle is the seventh time high schoolers in our area have been given this opportunity to connect while exploring and discovering the meaning of philanthropy.

Recognize Your Board of Directors for Their Support!

 Tracy Turner

Did 100% of your board make a personal financial gift to your organization between November 1, 2010, and October 31, 2011? If so, your organization qualifies for The 100 Percent Club. This award recognizes boards that support their agencies with 100% financial participation through personal giving!

We know nonprofits work very close to the budget line to offer their fantastic programs and services. And your Board of Directors also knows how hard you work. Now more than ever your Board's financial gifts to your organization make your work possible. Give them the recognition they have earned with their monetary gifts to your nonprofit!

Download form here. Complete it and send it back to me by November 3. Your organization and Board will then get all sorts of press for achieving this coveted recognition. Only 38 nonprofits in western Nevada claimed this recognition last year. Let's see that number skyrocket this year!

PS.

Here's a hint: many organizations have used this award to help motivate their Board members into making a financial gift to the organization. No one wants to be the ONE holdout keeping you from getting this award. There's still time to secure that last gift or two. We want your organization's name included in the list!

Inspiring Philantrhopist award
Congratulations!
Terry Lee Wells Foundation board member Sherrie Cartinella, received the Inspiring Philanthropist Award from Norma Webster and Chris Askin at the 2011 CFWN annual meeting.

The Community Foundation is inspired by the generous and timely support given by the Terry Lee Wells Foundation which made the opening of the TLW Nevada Discovery Museum possible. The Community Foundation delights, along with families from the entire region, in the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum as a place to explore, discover and connect.

Nonprofit Connections Website Grid

More northern Nevada nonprofit organizations are listed every week.

We extend the invitation to participate to all area nonprofit organizations. Those that are included on the grid are those who have sent in their link.

You can help the nonprofit closest to your heart by encouraging them to mark their place on the connections grid.

(If you would like your nonprofit included on our Connections grid, email Tracy Turner to learn how.)
