Hats Off

Des Moines Activity Center's Celebrating Hats - featured hats from countries around the world, vintage hats from personal collections as well as dining tables set with unique china place-settings and elaborate centerpieces. Co-sponsor, Normandy Park Senior Living, provided the evening meal.
Tables set with vintage china from volunteer table hostess Gwen Patton, Louise Roberts, Paula Larsen, Karen Biteman, Mary Jo Wagner, Irene Peyton and Roberta Chamberlain set the stage for an evening showcasing hats.
Reflecting his world-wide travels, Dick Master's hat collection from over 25 countries stole the show. Vintage hats and decorations from volunteers Virginia Provo, MaryJo Wagner, Roberta Chamberlain, Deborah Phillipson, Jeanne Serrill and Sharon Patton highlighted the style show modeled by Ray Clarke, John McEvoy, David Chamberlain, Karen Ramlo, Brenda Anders, Lyn Edwards, Judy Wattenberg, Ruth Hunt, Ruth Heaton, and Ramona Shierk. Doing some traveling of her own, volunteer Cordy Barnes donned sun and rain bonnets as she posted event flyers throughout Des Moines.
A mini-silent auction, filled with donations from Royal Fabric Care Center, Lynn McDonald, Sally Kearney, Florence McMullin, Judy Wattenberg, Barbara Cornwall, Judson Park Residents, Jane Jones and "New or Not" topped off the evening generating funds to support additional creative programs for the future.
