Legacy Foundation Logo Many thanks to the board of Directors of the Des Moines Legacy Foundation for recently approving the purchase of a gently used 14 passenger bus for Des Moines and Normandy Park senior services!!  Our second van is now 18 years old and limping along.  Thanks to eleven years of fundraising for senior programs and services through the annual Anthony's Homeport Bayside Brunch, funds are available to replace our ailing old 9 passenger van with a newer, more reliable bus!!!!!  The bus will be purchased in July and donated by the Des Moines Legacy Foundation to the City of Des Moines for use by the senior center.  Des Moines Legacy Foundation board of directors are:  President- Clark Snure, Vice President- Char Schulz, Treasurer- Hallie Marks, Secretary- Patrice Thorell, and board members Brenda Anders, Gene Achziger, Kathy Arnold, Wayne Corey, Michelle Fawcett, Keith Noess, Georgie Nupen, Sue Padden, Councilmember Carmen Scott, and Laura Rex Straight.
Des Moines Parks, Recreation & Senior Services provides recreation experiences in the Waterland City.  To pull it off, we get to work with civic minded groups and people who provide citizens with the quality of life that they deserve.  In Rec 'n Rah, we give thanks to the groups and people that make the Waterland a wonderful community.

Calling all Artists

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
IF YOU ARE AN ARTIST
(Visual, performing or literary)...
1. Contact any business in downtown Des Moines and ask if they would be willing to host your work. Most business owners will want to see or hear a sample of your work prior to registration.
2. If you need help finding a space or making contact with a local business, call PBAF Committee members: Vickie Bergquist at (206) 878-4050 or Cora Morrison at (206) 824-5920 for assistance.
3. Once a business agrees to host your work, the artist and the business representative should complete the registration form together. Listed artists are responsible for paying a $15 participation fee.
4. It is up to you and the business to make all specific arrangements regarding set up, take down, sales and receptions.
5. If you are a Highline Community College Student please provide your student ID number.
IF YOU ARE A BUSINESS...
1. Realizing that individual hours may vary, businesses are encouraged to remain open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25.
2. You may arrange for an artist on your own or call Poverty Bay Arts Festival for help. We can assist by networking artists with business, but cannot make specific arrangements to match an artist with privately owned business.
3. Please evaluate the appropriateness of your display/performance space to assure that you can accommodate and highlight the artist's work. We recommend participating businesses set aside adequate space to accommodate at least 10 pieces of art work by one or more artists.
4. Do not submit a registration form until you have made arrangements to host a specific artist.
5. The hosting business is responsible for submitting the registration form, and the $25 per artist fee to host an artist(s) at your business.
6. Obtain necessary input from the artist, complete the registration form, and return it to PBAF by Friday, July 23, 2010.
7. Confirmation letters will be sent to the business contact mailing address following the registration deadline. Registered participants will also receive maps and a participant poster two weeks prior to the event. Balloons indicating participation will be provided the day of the event.
