Sports Night Auction Steps its Game Up!  Sports Night
The Sports Night Auction is on deck.  This year's event features new auction items, dinner by Famous Dave's Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que, beer from The Ram Restaurant and Brewery, the Wheel of Fortune, Glory Days Speed Pitch, and our favorite games of chance - so you can "Take a Chance to Give Kids a Chance."

Proceeds benefit youth scholarships for kids in Des Moines that need a financial boost to participate in sports and recreation programs.  This year's need is particularly high, as more parents seek help to keep children in programs that teach lifelong lessons and have long term health benefits.

The Des Moines Legacy Foundation, Rotary Club of Des Moines, Des Moines Pool Metropolitan Parks District and Des Moines Parks, Recreation & Senior Services will volunteer their time to give kids a chance.  In addition to time, these organizations have pulled together wonderful items for your bidding pleasure.

Our guests will be able to help kids by purchasing items such as:
  • CorkyCellars Wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres for a dozen people
This is sure to be a memorable evening, as well as a positive way to impact our community.  Tables are filling quickly.  Call (206) 870-6527 to reserve your table or purchase individual tickets.

Rec 'n Rah!
Community Kudos
Des Moines Youth CouncilDes Moines Parks, Recreation & Senior Services provides recreation experiences in the Waterland City. To pull it off, we get to work with civic minded groups and people who provide citizens with the quality of life that they deserve. In Rec 'n Rah, we give thanks to the groups and people that make the Waterland a wonderful community.

This month's Rec 'n Rah! is for Des Moines Youth Council.  Comprised of 6-9th grade students from Des Moines, Youth Council meets every two weeks to plan community service projects and provides valuable volunteer hours at events like Spring Brunch, Argosy Christmas Ship Bonfire, Halloween Carnival, Teen Dances and most recently by planting flowers at City Hall and Big Catch Plaza for Earth Day.  Under the supervision of Cassie Swan of the parks and recreation department, the youth group has contributed hundreds of hours of service to the Des Moines community this year alone.  In return, participants gain leadership and organization skills, make lasting friendships, and earn rewards for service.
