Treat the Feet
There's something especially nurturing about receiving Reiki on your feet; it is indeed a treat! Beyond the comfort, there are practical reasons for focusing on the ankles and feet: - The feet are often accessible when the rest of the body may not be, especially for clients who are bedridden, hospitalized, or in hospice.
- Lacking time for a standard treatment, a complete treatment can be given using the ankle and feet positions pictured below, because:
- Reflexology points* for the entire body are located in the ankles and feet. Treating this area sends Reiki to organs, glands, and systems throughout the body.
I always treat the ankles and feet during a standard treatment; however, I may use only a couple of positions for the feet. (See my book, pages 48-49 for these.) If I am treating the ankles and feet only, due to time or access constraints, I use all of the positions pictured below. Depending on the time available, I may spend from 10-30 minutes on each foot. You may modify these positions for your own comfort, depending on whether you are sitting or standing. A low stool or chair is useful when treating someone on a recliner, sofa, or bed. You may also use all of these positions during a standard treatment with the client on a massage table. I've listed some of the areas affected by each position. There are many others.** In most instances, the reflexology points in the feet mirror each other; however, there are exceptions. For instance, the point for the ovaries is in the heel of the right foot; testicles in the left heel. Position #1. Starting with the right foot, hands are placed on either side of the ankle. Among the reflexology points treated are the lymphatic system, groin and thighs, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, penis, testicles, bladder, thighs, and hips.
Position #2. One hand remains on the outside of the ankle; the other hand cups the heel. In addition to most of the areas given above, treats sciatic nerve, knee, appendix, sacrum, rectum, and leg.
Position #3. Hands are placed on the top of the foot and on the instep. Some of the areas treated are the thoracic region, lungs, heart, kidneys, adrenals, liver, stomach, thymus.
Position #4. Hands are positioned over the ball of the foot and the toes. Treats sinuses, head, brain, lymphatic system for the head and throat, ears, pineal and pituitary glands, thyroid, eyes, ears, trachea.
Some overlap occurs, depending on the size of the client's feet and the size of your hands, but the point is to allow Reiki to flow to the ankles and all surfaces of the feet.
*In the foot reflexology system most widely used around the world, feet are considered the most sensitive access points to meridians throughout the body.
**For a complete listing of the reflexology points in the ankles and feet, see the excellent illustrations in Cyndi Dale's The Subtle Body, An Encyclopedia of Your Energetic Anatomy (pages 392-395).
Thanks to Forrest Gamble for the photographs and to Ronda Weston for providing the feet! (Yes, the hands are mine.) |

Good News
Susan Peterson recently completed Levels I & II. In October she leaves for Barrow, Alaska where she will be a public health nurse | Susan Peterson

serving remote Eskimo villages. She felt very strongly that she wanted Reiki in her nurse's kit for this new assignment, and she has learned very quickly just how useful it will be.
Susan shared this experience two weeks after completing her Reiki class:
I worked at the surgery center this morning and assisted a man who was having a toe amputated. During the procedure his blood pressure rose to a dangerously high level. I put my hands on his shoulder and arm and felt the flow of Reiki. I took his blood pressure every 15 minutes. After 15 minutes of Reiki, all subsequent readings were lower than his reading at admittance. It felt good to use Reiki and to feel as though I was a channel for helping to keep his blood pressure stable during his surgery. Thanks again for your class!!!
