Treating the Back
Although I do occasionally give treatments that focus only on the front of the body, typically I treat both front and back. I spend approximately an hour on the front of the body and about 30 minutes on the back.
Treating the back seems to be especially meaningful for clients who are using Reiki as a tool for spiritual transformation and to aid in the healing of emotional trauma. From these clients I will often hear comments such as, "That was profound, especially when your hands were on my back." "When I am lying face down and you are treating my back, I am able to relax more. I feel safer." "Amazing images came to me, mostly when you were working on my back."
Treating the back addresses many conditions, both physical and emotional. Below are four of the 12 positions I use on the back. All 12 positions are pictured in my book, pages 50-56. (See side panel.)
Position #19. Fingertips are at the occiput. This position resettles the energy after the client turns over. It treats the brain stem and optic nerve and aids in reducing anxiety, panic, and depression. I often send the Power symbol down the spine from this position.
Position #22. Starting on the right side of the body, hands are over the shoulder blades with fingertips at the spine. Position #23 mirrors this position on the left side of the body. Treats autonomic nervous system and heart and lung circulation. Aids in releasing burdens and taking in joy.
Position #24. Hands are across the back, just below the shoulder blades (approximately at the bra line for females). Treats the adrenal glands which, according to Mrs. Takata, is essential for "releasing shock" after trauma or injury.
Position #25. Hands are positioned in tandem across the back, just above the waistline. This position treats the kidneys, where disease often begins. Aids in the release of toxins and of emotional issues.

Celebrating the Founder
I'm still basking in the warmth of a wonderful Sunday spent celebrating the birth of Reiki founder Mikao Usui with fellow Reiki practitioners at Tsubaki Grand Shrine of America in Granite Falls, WA. The weather was perfect; Senior Shinto Priest, Rev. Koichi Barrish honored Usui Sensei with a beautiful ceremony; we shared cake on the Shrine grounds beside the Pilchuck River, and then talked Reiki over an extended lunch. Thanks to all who attended and especially to volunteers, Lou Orson, Cindy Thelen, Luminita Tarnu, and Nathan, and to Tina Sisco for sharing her photos. And as always, to Samantha Parrott, the Reiki Baker, for once again providing a delicious cake. | |

The beautiful ceremony not only honored Usui Sensei but also had the purpose of purifying those present and raising each person's vibration.

Good News
Recently I had the great pleasure of spending time with dear
friend and Reiki colleague, Jane Van de Velde and her family. During our visit, she suggested that I attune her father, who is 83.
 | | Clarice, Don, me, Jane |
Don has received Reiki from Jane and from her mother, Clarice, but had never been attuned himself.
I attuned Don, and afterwards, he said he had no words for what he felt. Later he said he "was on cloud nine." He sat down immediately and read my book from cover to cover. I'm not aware of anyone else having done that, and I was deeply touched by his commitment. He told Jane and Clarice, "Now I understand you two."
Several weeks have passed, and Don treats himself daily. He says, "Reiki makes me feel good and helps me get rid of stress. I get to sleep a lot easier, and my stomach feels better."
Welcome, Don, to the Reiki family!
