The Reiki for Living News

Greetings!

Rather than making New Year's resolutions, I like to choose a keyword and theme for the year. My keyword this year is "vulnerability" and my theme is "Fearlessly be yourself." The article below explains my choice. I hope it inspires you to contemplate themes for your year.

Reiki blessings,
Marianne

 Being Who You Are

Many of us spend a significant portion of our lives trying to be the person we believe we "should" be or the person we believe others want us to be. Not a few of us add to this the demand that we be perfect at being the person we believe we are supposed to be.

I watched a thought-provoking video recently featuring Brene Brown, Ph.D, M.L.S.W, author of The Gifts of Imperfection. Brown's extensive research brought her to the conclusion that we are hard-wired for connection with other human beings, but in order to have connection, we must live "whole-heartedly." That is, we must believe we are worthy of connection, and we must allow ourselves to be vulnerable. Being vulnerable includes:

  • Having the courage to tell the story of who you are and to be seen deeply. (Allowing others to see who you truly are, including your imperfections.)
  • Loving with your whole heart when you know there are no guarantees. (The relationship may not last; your child may take a path that distresses you.)
  • Practicing gratitude and leaning into joy in moments of terror. (While waiting for a biopsy report, for instance.)
  • Knowing that you are enough. Knowing you are enough allows you to be kinder and gentler with yourself and with others.

Often we try to avoid vulnerability by numbing ourselves to discomfort, fear, and pain. But Brown says we can't numb feelings we consider undesirable without numbing all feelings---joy, gratitude, love. To be vulnerable means to risk pain, but it is also the birthplace of joy, creativity, belonging, and love.To be vulnerable is to be truly alive.

And so, in 2012, I'm committed to being vulnerable, to fearlessly being who I truly am, and to stop demanding perfection of myself. I'm grateful to have the help of Reiki in achieving this.

Join the Distant Reiki Angels

Distant Reiki Angels are a group of Level II or above practitioners who have agreed to entertain email requests for distant Reiki.

Based on available time and other life circumstances at the time of the request, each "Angel" evaluates the request and chooses whether or not to send Reiki. If the "Angel" chooses to proceed, he or she will send distant Reiki as frequently as possible over a two-week period, or longer, if necessary.

Requests are sent to me. I organize and edit them before forwarding them to the "Angels."

For more information or to join this group, contact me.
