A Personal Definition of Reiki Reiki is described in many ways: as a relaxation technique; a hands-on healing technique; a complementary practice (to allopathic medicine), to mention a few. Through years of working with the energy, I've developed a personal definition: Reiki is Divine Love directed through the intention of the practitioner for the purpose of healing. To explain: - Divine Love: unconditional love; love without agenda, expectation, or demand.
- Directed: the energy is directed when the practitioner places his or her hands on (or near) their own body or the body of another, or when the protocol for sending distant Reiki is initiated.
- Intention: the intention of the practitioner to be an instrument of healing grace by allowing Reiki to flow. Inherent in intention is setting aside ego, attachment to outcome, and judgment.
- Healing: healing is not determined by the practitioner; the healing that takes place is between the recipient and Divine Love (the Higher Power, God, Universal Energy, Universal Law, Spirit).
The practitioner facilitates the greatest healing possible by being the clearest, most open channel possible. With this in mind, I set aside ego and attachment to outcome prior to giving Reiki, and I ask that nothing in me interfere with the flow of Divine Love through me. Thank you, Mikao Usui, for giving the world the gift of Reiki. This holiday season, give yourself or another the gift of Reiki.
