Simple Pleasures Whether we are Reiki practitioners or have another calling as our main professional focus, most of us seek a balance in our lives between "work" and "play." I love what I do, and I don't think of it as "work," so it is easy for me to continuously engage in some activity related to my practice of Reiki. Recently, it was pointed out to me that no matter how passionate we may be about our work, it is indulging in "play" that feeds our creativity, refreshes and renews us. The simple pleasures that many of us think of as indulgences are actually essential if we are to be as effective as possible in our chosen profession as well as in other areas of life. I began to think about activities that have given me pleasure and realized that I've let a number of them fall by the wayside over the years. I've made a commitment to revisit those that call to me now. Swimming with a friend recently reminded me how completely relaxing this activity is for me, and I've begun to swim twice a week. Attending a dance class has rekindled my love of dance and encouraged me to seek out other classes. I've reconnected with my passion for photography by snapping shots with my iPhone as I walk around a nearby lake. (See the photo below.) These simple pleasures give me joy and feed my soul. When I indulge them, I bring more energy and joy to my "work". Are there simple pleasures in your life that you haven't indulged recently?
