Veterans Green Force Launches!

Veterans Green Force Puts More Boots on the Ground

Last week, Veterans Green Jobs was thrilled to announce the launch of an initiative that's been a long time in coming: Veterans Green Force. This outreach, recruitment and placement program is exclusively designed for military veterans. With Veterans Green Force, we aim to place 300 veterans in green sector jobs by the middle of next year. Thanks to generous start-up funding from Walmart and the Call of Duty Endowment, and to critical strategic partnerships we're forming with green sector employers and training institutions, we're confident we will be able to put "more boots on the ground" and help reverse the veteran unemployment trend.

We've been slowly building Veterans Green Force over the last three years, and all of our work to train and employ veterans has formed the 'building blocks' for this program. We've gained great experience preparing hundreds of veterans for jobs in outdoor conservation, home energy efficiency, solar and wind energy, urban forestry and other sectors. Now, we're excited that this work will come together under one umbrella and we'll be able to put more veterans to work in the green sector than ever before.

How will we do this? The main goal is to match veterans' military experience and interests to the skills needed by green sector employers, link them to training and educational programs to provide them with skills in key subject areas, and connect them with available jobs. We can only accomplish this by strategically working with private businesses, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, professional associations and higher education institutions that offer jobs or training programs to military veterans.

Our area of emphasis continues to be sustainable jobs that serve our communities and environment. This includes energy efficiency and conservation; renewable and clean energy; green construction and building; natural resources and conservation; environmental remediation and response; and sustainable agriculture.

So, if you are a veteran looking for green sector jobs or training - please get in touch with us. You can start by filling out our online form . We'll keep your data on file and let you know when we have concrete information about specific opportunities. For now, we are primarily collecting information from interested participants as we build our database of opportunities.

If you are an employer or training institution, and you share our mission of helping veterans get to work, we hope you'll join us. This is a national program - so we are looking for partnerships throughout the country. Please contact John Toth at (720) 236-1316 or by email at [email protected].

Again, special thanks go to our sponsors, Walmart and the Call of Duty Endowment, for their generous support of Veterans Green Force and helping us to get this program off the ground!

Meet John:

To get Veterans Green Force off the ground and running, we have just hired Lieutenant Colonel (Retired, U.S. Army) John Toth as senior director of Veterans Programs. A decorated airborne-ranger infantry officer and combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, John recently completed his military career as professor of military science at the University of Colorado-Boulder. He brings a wealth of experience working with post 9/11 soldiers and cadets. We are privileged and excited to have him on board.
We invite you to read about John on our website.
