Crosstraining: Participating in one sport to train for another.
As both coaches and athletes, we know firsthand that this can be the most difficult time of year for training. The issue isn't weather or lack of daylight but, for some, a lack of motivation. If you've been training for the better part of the year, you may find your interest in the bike waning by now. Try switching up your routine and integrating another activity such as running, swimming or strength training. While these won't provide the exact same physical benefits as riding, they might be all you need to get over the mental hump. |

Looking Back At Our First Five Years
 | Brand Spanking New! |
Five years...now that went fast! When I think back about the things I was doing in July of 2007, I'm amazed at how it has all come together. It all started with creating a business name, working with the Secretary of State office on registering Optimize Endurance Services, setting up the LLC, banking, sales tax, not to forget all the equipment to research and purchase including the Mobile Lab. Branding the business came next, all the different logos, colors and website structures to consider. Hard to believe the sheer number of people involved just to get to the 'Official' presentation of OES to the Colorado public at the 2007 Veloswap at the end of October. See the picture of the RV in its new wrap; I drove it from Sign-A-Rama to the stock show complex to park it inside...down to the wire! READ FULL ARTICLE |

| What to Do After a Crash
If you've been watching this year's Tour de France you know that, so far, the race has been defined by big crashes and injuries. As the news of a crash crackles over the race radio, team mechanics and doctors prep themselves in the follow car. Their aim is to check over the rider and their bike and to get them going again as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, as amateur riders, we don't have the luxury of a support team to check us out after we take a tumble. While none of us plan on crashing (in fact, we recommend not doing it whenever possible) we should all be prepared in case of a tumble...READ FULL ARTICLE |

Donate to Wildfire Relief
While the rain this past weekend may have spoiled riding plans for many of us, we can all agree that it was a welcome site for our state. Most of us have had friends, family or neighbors who have been affected by the recent wildfires. Many are looking at a long road ahead to return their lives to normal. We can all help by donating to local charities like the Colorado Chapters of the American Red Cross...DONATE HERE |
Gear
| Garmin Edge 500
When clients ask us what we use for training one device comes to mind, the Garmin Edge 500. The Edge 500 is a lightweight, GPS-based bike computer designed for performance-driven cyclists. It tracks metrics such as distance, speed and elevation. Add an ANT+ compatible heart rate monitor, speed/cadence sensor or power meter to further track your workout. You can also easily upload your workout to the computer so you, or your coach, can analyze your ride and help you get the most out of your training.

Famous Colorado Routes
The climb up Vail Pass is one of the most famous and challenging climbs in all of Colorado. Riding out of Vail, the lower section up the road has been ridden by some of the biggest names in cycling as part of the Coors Classic, Teva Mountain Games and, most recently, the US Pro Challenge. What they missed out on was the challenging section of trail that takes you to the summit at 10,666'. In total, the climb gains roughly 2,400ft in elevation over 13.5mi and will be included in our Copper Triangle training ride on July 22nd. Quote of the Month: "From Paris to the blue waves of the Mediterranean, from Marseille to Bordeaux, passing along the roseate and dreaming roads sleeping under the sun, across the calm of the fields of the Vendée, following the Loire, which flows on still and silent, our men are going to race madly, unflaggingly."
-Henri Desgrange, co-founder of the Tour de France, describing the first Tour.
