Training Word

of the Month

Anaerobic Glycolysis -the anaerobic breakdown of glucose to lactic acid in the production of energy (ATP). Simplified-use of a simple sugar by the body for energy in the absence of oxygen.

When the body produces energy in this fashion, it is done very quickly and has a by-product associated to it. The body has to manage this end product. Having an understanding of why this happens and when it becomes more prevalent is a part of training smarter.

The coaches at OES use Lactate Threshold testing to help clients understand how physiology can be used to create performance improvements. Knowing how a client reacts to workloads gives the coach a leg up on helping the client reach goals.

"After your first day of cycling, one dream is inevitable. A memory of motion lingers in the muscles of your legs, and round and round they seem to go. You ride through dreamland on wonderful dream bicycles that change and grow."
