June Newsletter Header
Greetings!
Think you missed the May newsletter? Well, I didn't get around to designing one to send you last month. The reason, put simply, I was far too busy to get around to it. Busy interacting with wonderful clients like you with all of the different services OES offers. So, I reach out to say thank you for trusting in OES and sending your friends/family to do business with us. I have dusted off the newsletter 'hat' for June, so this issue will be slightly larger to make up for it.

In this newsletter:
  • OES/BikeSource Mountain Bike Team website/facebook
  • Two more events: Denver Century Ride and Denver Triathlon
  • Mid-Summer mountain bike fun, check out a four day trip from Gemini Adventures
  • Preparation ideas for your next event: article by coach Rob
  • Triple Bypass in June? Nope, but OES does have six practice rides in June
  • Links to the races/events that are getting under way for Mountain and Road
I'm also looking for some honest feedback with regard to the monthly OES newsletter. I get many different newsletters in my inbox and I know it can't be much different for you. Please let me know if I should change the format to a less frequent time frame or if your fine with the monthly format. My hope is that the OES newsletter is one you save and read, not just delete. I would enjoy hearing from you.

Please pass this along to your friends and family.

Enjoy!
Pre-Event Warm-Up Strategies for Cyclists

With the season of events for cyclists in Colorado underway, I thought it would be good to present some strategies for preparation. Nutrition, equipment, trip planning, knowledge of the course and warm-up are a few of the items on the top of the list. Each one of the listed items is an important discussion and to focus on one will also involve points about the others. In this article I will discuss the warm-up strategies I have found to work well. From these general suggestions a more individual approach can and should be designed.

Everyone has heard the term 'warm-up' and although it has broad meaning, it can be very specific for the type of event. Finding the warm-up that is correct for a specific event can increase one's ability...[read full article]

Denver Triathlon
Denver Triathlon

Coach Kim Boere has teamed up with this new event. Check out the unique venue and plans.

The Denver Triathlon is Denver's first urban triathlon. Test your talents against the Mile High City. The swim will take place at Sloan's Lake. The bike will carry athletes down historic Colfax Ave before ending at transition two, staged outside of Invesco Field at Mile high Stadium where the run heads north up the South Platte River Trail before returning to Mile High Stadium for an amazing finish line and post race celebration!

Make the best of it with a training plan built for the event. The 2011 Inaugural Denver Triathlon training plans for purchase are designed to guide anyone from a relatively new triathlete to the experienced in completing the sprint or Olympic distances.

Mountain R.A.T.S. MTB Camp
Gemini AdventuresIt's the ultimate Mountain Bike skills adventure. Four days of jaw dropping views, lung burning ascents, aspen dotted hillsides and carefree ridge riding. You will be coached for four days on the many skills that make up mountain biking while your gear is safely transported each day and your meals are provided for you. Because its lead by seasoned USA Cycling Coach, Rob Lockey, you'll come away with new skills to apply to recreational riding as well as racing. It's like a skills clinic summer camp for adults. Riders can check in Thursday morning and arrive home by Sunday night in time for work on Monday morning.

OES/BikeSource MTB Team 2011

OES/BS 2011
The season is well underway and we are already posting some stellar results! Please view this page and our facebook page to see results.

It is the mission of Team OES/BikeSource to foster the enjoyment of riding and racing mountain bikes by: bringing new riders to the sport, connecting with our community, cultivating a competitive spirit and promoting our sponsors.

Training Word of the Month

Periodization-this term is defined as the varying of a training stimulus over discrete periods of time to prevent over training.

The coaches at OES use periodization when writing general plans for events like Denver Triathlon and  Ride the Rockies all the way up to our top level of coaching, Elite Plan. This structure allows the coach to assist the client in reaching the desired goals.

Quote of the Month

"When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking."

~Arthur Conan Doyle, in an  1896 article for Scientific American
