About Nanolia
The name Nanoliais derived from Greek and reflects the company's interest in nano coatings, the application of nano technology to bring new properties to surfaces.

These qualities include making surfaces resistant to abrasion, stain, corrosion or moisture, protected from spills of acids, fats and oils, anti-bacterial, heat tolerant, colour-fast and U/V protected - and easier to clean using only water.

How do I choose betweeen Stone Guard and Stone Protect?

Nano-treated brick
Treated brick repels water, inhibits moss and algae

Nanolia Stone Guard is recommended for protecting practically all types of porous or absorbant mineral-based materials such as sandstone, concrete, roof tiling and stone both indoors and outside against the adverse effects of water, oil and dirt/dust.

However, for extra protection outdoors and where freeze-thaw cycles may be a significant issue, we recommend Nanolia Stone Protect, our new silicate product, as this also seals and protects against weathering, acid, snow, frost and ice and the formation of algae. In particular, because it is an impregnating, hydro-phobic sealer it also protects porous building materials such as brick, tiles, concrete and paving against efflorescence.

Stone Protect is a single component product, odourless and free from solvents, resistant to chemical attacks and abrasion, gives protection up to 15 years and is easy to apply. This product impregnates into the porous surface then forms a barrier against the environment. Most importantly unlike conventional stone treatments of this potency it does not form a visible coat on the surface of the stone or concrete.

Footnote: For marble and other materials that do not contain any calcium, we would recommend the use of Nanolia Stone Coat.

Why is nanocoating technology better than old technology?

Hydrophobic surfaces repel water - e.g. treated wood

Question:

Having demonstrated the hydrophobic properties of nanocoatings to a number of people, we are often told "that's very nice but there are many other products (not nano) that already do that and are similarly priced/brand leaders - why should I go the nano route?"

We at Nanolia have our own ideas as to why people should use modern, environmentally friendly nanocoatings but we would be very interested to hear our readers' views on this important matter.

Advanced properties of Nanolia coatings and impregnations

Apart from being simply Water Repellent due to the hydrophobic "skin" effect, our coatings and impregnations have a "high contact angle" which means that droplets of water roll very easily over the surface, taking contaminants with them. It's a bit like comparing ball bearings to bean bags with regard to fluidity of movement.

Scrupulously Clean Surfaces
·    At the microscopic level, treated surfaces are so smooth that they are easily cleaned - usually with just water
·    Surfaces are so smooth that dirt and other particles find it difficult to stick - depriving bacteria of food. Hence anti-microbial properties without the inclusion of biocides.

Ultra-thin coating
·    A little goes a very, very long way!
·    Coatings follow the contours of a surface, meaning that they will not make non-slip surfaces slippery.
·    Coatings are extremely flexible, will not crack on flexible surfaces.
·    Breathing characteristic: Allow moisture - water as vapour - to pass through due to tiny gaps between nano-particles.
·    Will not (usually) change the appearance of a surface.  (We have some products such as Nanolia Protect that are designed to enhance surface gloss and deepen colour.)

Environmentally friendly
Non toxic, neither carcinogenic nor mutagenic
Easy to apply with short drying times and no noxious fumes
Long working life and then easily re-applied
