Greetings!

Spring is here and Summer is just ahead! Chances are you have already lost some of that new year's resolution steam and you're not quite sure how to get it back.  Don't worry.  It's normal.  We've all been there.  Things get in the way and we either become distracted or discouraged by them and next thing we know, we've lost our focus on our health.  Part of the cycle just needs to be getting back on that workout program and get moving again.  Wanna know how?  Read on!

Spring into Fitness
We love contest time.  People get excited about having new challenges to keep them motivated and this year's spring challenge is better than ever!  Better point system. Better prizes. Better focus on getting you on track with your fitness goals!  There's nothing like prizes and a little friendly competition to boost you back in the game so jump in and see how much fun a Steelhead challenge can be. 
 
The contest begins Monday, April 26th and runs for 8 weeks. You must preregister so come in and sign up today. Remember, if you are an after-hours member, we are open Saturdays, too. See the contest rules at the end of this newsletter, come register and get started!

Take Shape for Life
The name says it all.  This program will help you take off unhealthy pounds and keep them off, plus you will improve your life by creating a healthier you.  We added this program to our "Battle of the Bulge" arsenal because it was proven to us to be safe and very effective for each of our family members who tried it.  Now every one of our club members on the program is losing weight and feeling great!  Ask us how you can benefit from this simple weight loss program or visit our website @ http://www.steelheadfitness.tsfl.com/esuite/home/steelheadfitness/ to find out more.

Juice (and Snack) Bar
We always have a shake of the month and this month it is Chocolate Peanut Butter Bunny.  Lose the "Bunny" and you get the picture. ( I don't make up the names...)  If you like chocolate and peanut butter, you'll love this one!
 
We have new healthy snacks for those "between meal" meals that make eating healthy very convenient.  Samples are available so check 'em out.

Exercise is more fun with a friend.  Now imagine having 10 friends working out with you! Paid Membership Through Your Healthcare

Have you checked all your healthcare benefits?  Many healthcare providers will offer incentives for gym membership, especially to older members.  Some offer discounts on joining fees, some pay up to a specific dollar amount while others pay for every visit.  Many Oregon and national health care providers added these benefits in January, so look closely at your new benefits package.  Steelhead Strength and Fitness is a registered fitness club with Silver&Fit.

What's New (or not)
NEW: We finally replaced the old recumbent bikes!  The last of our inherited oldies were upgraded with new models and are much easier to use.  They work much like the rest of the Precor brand equipment, but if you have questions, please let us know.
 
NOT: You may have noticed a treadmill missing?  It's been giving us intermittent fits for some time now and it is being worked on.  We will fill the gap soon.
 
NEW: No more fighting over the ArcTrainer. We bought you a new one!  This machine gives you a GREAT workout. Give it a try.
 
NOT: Some have asked about getting a drinking fountain upstairs.  We looked into that and the $1000 bill is probably going to put a damper on that for a while. Might we suggest a water bottle?  We'll give you $2 off the shiny blue Steelhead one.
 
NEW (well, almost): We are building a video library for exercises.  Soon you will be able to walk up to one of our computer kiosks and search for specific exercises designed for men and women.  Once created, the library will also be used for referencing a workout of the week.
The Beach is Calling
 
8 Weeks to a Beach Body
How?  We'll show you.  We have combined some top-rate eating and exercise plans to take off that winter weight and tone those muscles to give you that leaner, eye-catching look you know you want for summer.  This program fulfills both the eating program and the workout program for your Spring into Fitness Challenge.  We will have kickoff meetings and demonstrations at 7am, 9:30am & 6pm on Monday, April 19th to explain the program and give you the materials you need to get started.  There will be one other info/demo meeting about half way through the program.  You will not need to make any other meetings or class times during these 8 weeks.  This program is designed to work with your schedule.  We are here for support and information as you need it along the way. Sign up for a meeting time at the front desk, call or email to let us know what time you will make it on Monday the 19th.  If you are interested in the program, but cannot make these times, please let us know and we will see how we can get you started!
Contest Outline
 
How to Play
The contest is designed to get you to use the club and its amenities to work for you and help you achieve your goals. ANYONE CAN WIN!  We have tools here to help you win at wellness and the quality of life that comes with it.  The point system looks like this:
 

· 1 point per workout. Xtra point for 3x/wk.
· 3 points for the first time you try each of our classes.
· 2 points for learning the functional training circuit* (5 points for after hours only members).
· 3 points per week for using a workout program* (must provide copies).
· 5 points** for using ActivTrax (30 day free trial or current user).
· 5 points** for completing a workout session*** with our certified personal trainer.
· 3 points per week for using a food journal.
· 5 points** for following a pre-determined eating plan*.
· 5 points** for completing a nutrition session*** with our certified personal trainer.
· 2 points per week for turning in a healthy recipe.
*Must be verifiable by staff member. 
**Awarded only once.
*** Sessions at 50% off for registered contestants.
 

Register for the contest with the front desk staff.  Must be registered no later than 1 week after contest begins. You must be a keycard carrying member to win. Point cards, food journals, etc will be provided. Points will be tallied weekly. Must turn in proof items weekly, which include point cards, journals, recipes, etc. Weekly proof items will not be accepted if turned in later than 3 days from the end of the week (Sunday).
