Greetings!

jack 2011 1

Yikes, so we're officially one decade past "2001, a Space Odyssey."

It's amazing the way we all still look so great! And our teeth and smiles just keep looking better and better.

It is sooo cool being a Baby Boomer; especially since TCDC comes fully equipped with rose-colored laser glasses.

Here's wishing everyone a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2011. Hope y'all had a great Holiday.

Me, I toughened up my abs, ate healthy, and drank lots of water, stayed away from the demon juice, lost weight...and emerged totally ready to take on the New Year. Yeah, I got sick and it's amazing how coughing at your knees all night can build a 12...or 6...or, okay maybe a solid 2-pack in only one fortnight (Wimbledon for 2-weeks.)

So here we go. It's a new year and we're looking at a blank page loaded with possibility. Declare it, be it, do it, and have it. And health isn't a bad place to start.

The beauty of January is that we have strength and support in numbers. Share those resolutions and gain some support for your intentions in 2011. And don't just try (what does trying look like?) As our webbed friends in the Pacific Northwest like to say, "JUST DO IT!"

USC Trojan UPDATES

sc logo

So the TCDC Trojan Shrine took on a more modest appearance in 2010 and we'll see about those nasty NCAA sanctions after this month's appeal takes place on the 22nd.

I'm sure we'll also get a report from Assistant Athletic Director J.K. McKay at the SGV Trojan Club event at Brookside Park on January 25.

 song girls

Oh, and my USC dental school classmate, Dr. Gary Laine currently contributes TWO daughters to the world famous USC Song Girl squad (and the USC song girls have never had a bad year.)

Baby Watch...

babyBy the time you receive this newsletter, OM Dalila will have taken her maternal leave of absence. Dalila stayed on up until one week before her delivery date; she's expecting a boy. We'll look forward to seeing Dalila back in three months.

Until then, expect to see Dental Assistant Extraordinaire Dani's smiling face at the front desk. A warning: Dani is known to her Mom and brothers and sisters as "The Warden." I'm just sayin...

Another new face at TCDC belongs to Brigitte. Brigitte is a Temple City product through and through, attending Temple City schools start to finish. Brigitte took her dental assistant training at Citrus Community College and benefited from an excellent program.

Brigitte also in-service trained here at TCDC. The only weakness I've detected in Brigitte is her tendency to wear a UCLA bruin hoodie and root for the Dodgers (Mostly because, "...blue is my favorite color".)

Mid Valley NEWS!

Last newsletter I mentioned my leaving the Temple City Tribune due to "artistic differences" to join the Mid Valley News. And shucks, a couple of weeks ago I even included the Trib in my "Top Ten" New Year Resolutions column (I resolved to appreciate the rag because it was softer than Charmin.)

 Resolve This!

And so now I'm writing for the TC Chamber monthly newsletter too. And why not? Some 13-14 years ago, the Chamber gave me my very first opportunity to write a column; didn't think I could ever come up with a topic and material once a month. And now it's been twelve years of writing once a week!

Didn't know one dentist could carry around so much hot air.

  aunt clara
So Aunt Clara's Holiday cold gave way to the Mother of all coughs.

Aunt C. spent a few days in the hospital but she's up and at 'em again.

Between you and me, my Aunt was like the rock star of the hospital what with so many health care providers marveling over her age...and her TEETH!

Happy New Year!

Excerpt from chapter...

 Law & Order

"On the morning of January ninth, 2006, I opened the back door of the office only to find the light already on, the heat on, and papers strewn all over the place. For a second there, I thought the cleaning crew was taking the Trojan Rose Bowl loss even worse than I was..."

Come on by for your copy of the book! It's actually quite amusing while it's educational!

We are listening...

Jane Wyllie

"If you asked me 14 years ago if this could be possible, I would have said never. Then I moved to CA and started to see Dr. Von Bulow. I have learned that going to the dentist does not have to ever be painful!

Jane

I love the amusing office banter that sometimes makes it impossible not to laugh and the iterations of "comfort innovations" I have been a part of (wax dip to soften your hands while you get your teeth cleaned, movies to tide you over during tooth restorations, bottled water and fresh fruit trays in case someone gets hungry, amino acid and neuro-stimulation alternative treatments). I love that I never know what they'll come up with next to make the experience more pleasant. Even my six year old daughter likes going to the dentist!"
