Leadership Greenville NEW
Leadership Greenville's Class 39 Projects Are Underway!
Each year, Leadership Greenville Class participants embark on projects to better our community. Class Projects are chosen based on proposals submitted by class members, as well as nonprofit Chamber-member organizations. This year's Class 39 has divided into three groups to follow through with these projects:

Trees Greenville
Group 1/Team Leader: Steven "Buck" Buckingham sbuckingham@gwblawfirm.com
Group 1 is working to 1) increase membership in TreesGreenville from 400 members to 1000 members; 2) to develop a plan for retaining membership; and 3) develop a sustainable plan for getting new members. The group plans to accomplish these goals by participating in high-profile tree plantings, a coordinated media campaign, and a significant year-end event.

Swamp Rabbit Trail Rail Car
Group 2/Team Leader: Ally Hale hale.allyson@gmail.com
Group 2 is working with Greenville Rec to restore a Swamp Rabbit Trail Rail Car in Berea. They'll paint/restore the exterior, ensure safety regarding entering & exiting the car (slides, steps, fireman pole, etc), and create a large public space to sit/eat/play.

Miracle Hill Shepard's Gate
Group 3/Team Leader: Meredyth Crichton meredyth.crichton@ge.com
Group 3 is working with Shepherd's Gate Women's Shelter to transform an outdoor area that is currently asphalt to a relaxing area for the women and children. Updates will include planting multiple trees and bushes in a new divider (already in place), adding an area of brick pavers with benches and giving the playground a fresh look with a new mural. Fundraising is under way with coffee sales and a college football fundraiser party. Anyone interested in purchasing coffee for the holidays can contact Meredyth at the email address above! Cost is $10 per bag.

BEST Tip of the Week

Many commercial accounts have both an Energy usage charge in kilowatt-hours (kWh) and a Demand or peak usage charge, expressed in kilowatts (kW). The Energy charge is the amount of electricity a customer uses during the billing period. The Demand charge is the maximum average demand used by a customer in a 30-minute period during a month. In order to reduce your peak demand rate it is important to understand which facets or equipment in your operation are causing the peak demand. Then develop strategies to stagger tasks or equipment. In an office setting, this could be as simple as turning on lights, computers, printers, copiers, HVAC and miscellaneous equipment over a period of time, as opposed to initiating everything at once.
