WEEKLY UPDATE       Wednesday, June 1, 2011

Greetings!

Please join us in congratulating our Small Business of the Month ADEX Machining Technologies, our 2011 Leadership Greenville Distinguished Alumni Award winner Dr. Judith S. Prince, and our Leadership Greenville Class 37 Graduates. Have a great week!

Congrats to our Small Business of the Month: ADEX Machining Technologies

ADEXADEX specializes in advanced machining of prototypes and new product development projects, just-in-time contract manufacturing, and working with exotic "super-alloys" metals such as Inconel and Titanium for the aerospace, defense and energy industries. Examples include jet engine rotating components, rocketry propulsion, missile warheads, torpedoes, helicopter structural parts, and industrial gas turbine combustion hardware.

Originally founded in 1987 as a small tool & die machine shop in Greer, South Carolina, the
company was acquired in 2007 by two partners, Sean Witty and Jason Premo. During the height
of the recession, the partners implemented an aggressive equipment modernization strategy,
while also working closely with ReadySC! to develop workforce training initiatives.
In 2008 the company was rebranded as ADEX Machining Technologies and relocated in 2009 to a
larger facility in Greenville. Today ADEX has grown nearly 300% and boasts a skilled workforce
of just under 50 associates, operating on a 24 x 7 capacity schedule with highly advanced 5-Axis
CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to manufacture the most complex designed
components.

During the past four years, average wages have risen from $16 per hour to over $25 per hour for highly skills CNC Machinists, in addition to creating new engineering positions with salaries in the high $70,000 and $80,000 range. ADEX utilizes a "self-directed higher performance team" organization that has no traditional managers or supervisors. Instead, most of the decisions are made on the factory floor by highly trained and empowered teams called "work-cells" that focus
on coordinating production flow, quality and productivity requirements according to customer and company goals.

Employees are cross trained on many different machines and skills areas, and take part in career development plans that provide promotional opportunities as positions are created or expanded. The company also has a state-certified Apprenticeship Program and a partnership with Greenville Technical College, to develop and recruit new employees who graduate from the Machine Tool Technology program.

"ADEX is one of many examples of effective workforce training efforts in action, a positive state
economic environment, and further proof that South Carolina can produce the most advanced
products anywhere in the world," said Jason Premo, Co-Owner. "We're delighted to be a part of
the Greenville and Upstate community, and look forward to many exciting years ahead". ADEX
was recently named as one of Inc. Magazine's "Fastest Growing Companies" and also selected
by The Boeing Company as the only precision machining candidate for the mentor-protégé
supplier development program in South Carolina. Learn more at http://adexmt.com/.
