ACCELERATE! Plays Important Role In Landing Southwest Airlines
$80 Million Annual Impact
The successful recruitment of Southwest Airlines to GSP International Airport was a game-changing win for the Upstate and your investment in ACCELERATE! helped make it happen.
At a key juncture in the project timeline this spring, ACCELERATE! "dry powder" funds were used to secure additional lobbying support in Columbia to make the case for the discount airline at GSP.
Although state incentives were not required in the end, project leaders confirm that this injection of support and the political momentum it created was crucial to pushing the ball over the goaline.
Without ACCELERATE!, the resources would not have been ready and available.
Attracting Southwest to GSP has been a strategic goal of the Greenville Chamber for many years. The first recruiting contact occurred over a decade ago. But it took persistence, a united community effort, and support from ACCELERATE! investors to finally be successful.
With an estimated impact of $80 million annually, this catalytic project will significantly improve our economic competitiveness for many years to come and proves the strong ROI for ACCELERATE! |
