Hello Delco RRC

Have something interesting to add to the email?  Forward it to me at info@delcorrc.com.  Thanks to those that always give me support.

"Hard things take time to do.  Impossible things take a little longer."

Percy Cerutty - an athletics coach in the 1950s and 1960s."

With this quote in mind: So its going to take awhile.  Delco RRC has been running for over 30 years.  Come join us at one of our many Fun Runs.  Let us help you do the impossible.  Make friends along the way.
Swarthmore Fun Run - Wednesday

32 runners and walkers were out last night for the Swarthmore Fun Run.  No new runners joined us last night but there were several we haven't seen in awhile.  16 people came out to Swarthmore Pizza afterward for good food, laughs and chit chat.  Come on out and join in the fun.  All abilities are welcome.
Philly Rock n Roll 1/2 Drawing

And the winners are Jeanne Ciocca and Robert Kern.  Congratulations!

A drawing was held to select 2 winners before the Fun Run on Wednesday, July 28th.  Thank you to the Running Place for providing the club with these entries.

The winning members will each receive a coupon code to redeem via online registration.  Coupons must be redeemed prior to September 3, 2010.
20 in 24

Just an update for some of the "Masters" still in Delco RRC who might remember me.  July 17-18 were the dates of the "Back on My Feet 20in24 Ultra" that was run in Philadelphia.  Along with several different Relay Divisions, there were over 250 in the Lone Ranger Division.  The object was to see how many loops on
the river drive you could complete in 24 hrs.

Anyway, it has been just under 2 years since my double bypass, and my goal was to finish 6 loops (50.736M) in 12 hrs. (I really wanted the 50 mile paperweight they gave if you got that far!)  As with many runners who are "ahead of pace" early, I slowed my last 2 loops in the heat to a virtual walk, and I "happily" finished in 13:01:08.

The only other Delco RRC runner I knew in the race was Bonnie Muetterties who finished 3 loops (25.368M) while supporting her niece, Jennifer Buescher from CA (6 loops in 11:56:49).   Josh Irvan, another area runner finished 2nd male with over 122M.  (The eventual winner of the Ranger Division went over 146M.  He got
more than a paperweight... $3000).

Another Day, Another Mile,

Bill Schultz
Good Eats

Grilled Orange Pork and Pineapple

4 boneless top loin pork chops, cut 3/4 inch thick (about 1 1/4 pounds total)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 fresh pineapple, peeled and cored
3/4 cup plain fat-free yogurt
1/3 cup low-sugar orange marmalade
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped toasted pecans
1 tablespoon snipped fresh thyme

Sprinkle both sides of pork chops with salt and pepper. Cut pineapple crosswise into eight 1/2-inch-thick slices; set aside. Combine yogurt and 2 tablespoons of the marmalade; set aside.
For a charcoal grill, grill chops on the rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium coals for 4 minutes. Turn; add pineapple to grill. Brush chops and pineapple with remaining marmalade. Grill 3 to 5 minutes more or until an instant-read thermometer inserted in pork registers 160°F and pineapple has light grill marks, turning pineapple once.
Arrange pineapple and chops on serving plates. Spoon yogurt mixture over chops and pineapple; sprinkle with nuts and thyme.

Women's Distance Festival - The year sure does race by!!!

To all Delco RRC runners - please come out to support the Rose Tree training runs in September. We need help in welcoming new runners and making sure they don't get lost.

Runners "buddy up" to learn the cross country course, prepare for race.

For the fourth year in a row, the Delco Road Runners Club will be meeting at Rose Tree Park every Thursday night in September to run one of the best cross country courses in Delaware County.

The ultimate goal is to prepare runners to compete in the 31st Annual Women's Distance Festival 5K Run/Walk (3.1 miles) to be held at the park on Oct. 9th. Even for those who don't enter the race, the free training runs are a great opportunity to learn the cross country course at any pace - walking, jogging or racing.

The "buddy up" component to encourage participation among newer runners will be used again this year. Seasoned runners will pair up with newbies, and people who run a similar pace will find new running buddies. For the race on Oct. 9th, there is also a reduced "buddy up" entry fee for runners who register together by mail.

The training runs are open to women and men (and girls and boys) though the race is open to women only. (The club may allow men to run, but really, its the WDF.  Take a break.)  The training runs are free and no registration is required. Anyone who is interested should meet at Rose Tree Park 's first parking lot, alongside Route 252, about 15 minutes before the run starts at 6:30 p.m. The dates are September 9, 16, 23 and 30.

The Women's Distance Festival 5K will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, at 10:00 a.m. Race proceeds will help support (Still to be determined). Additionally, proceeds will help Delco RRC in its mission to promote running as a lifelong activity that can enhance the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of people of all ages.

For more information about the training runs or the race visit www.WomensDistanceFestival.com or contact Dawn Patterson at sunsetmk@aol.com.

About the WDF
The Women's Distance Festival was created by the Road Runners Club of America to support the inclusion of women's distance events in the Olympic Games. The race at Rose Tree is presented by the Delco Road Runners Club, and is part of the Delco RRC doubleheader, "A Day of Champions." In the afternoon, high-school athletes will compete on the same 5K course in the 47th Annual Delaware County Cross Country Championships.
