Hello Delco RRC

"There is no chance, no destiny, no fate that can circumvent, hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul."
                    -- Ella Wheeler Wilcox

With this quote in mind:  I like the sound of this quote and have seen examples of this my entire life.  Be one of those examples and help to keep me and others inspired.  Come out today to one of our Fun Runs.
Lehigh Valley Runners

For those who are interested in carpooling, we are planning on leaving Springfield Library Saturday at 1:30 PM. I'm not sure about carpooling arrangements for Sunday, but others can coordinate that if there is a need.

I'm not sure who is going up on Sunday, but PLEASE NOTE YOU MUST MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE YOUR RACE PACKET PICKED UP ON SATURDAY. There will be no race day packet pickup
on Sunday!!!!

If you want someone to pickup the packet for you, you must give them a copy of your driver's license. On the copy, write a note that you authorize that person to pickup your package and sign the note.
We have three teams of 5 runners each. I believe there are a few others who are running on their own.

Shelter dogs need running buddies

You've probably heard of Back On My Feet, the local group that inspires the homeless to self-empowerment through running, but you may not be familiar with Monster Milers, which connects local runners with homeless dogs as running companions. The group, a division of the Monster Minders dog-walking and pet-sitting service, in South Philly, takes dogs from animal shelters who would normally sit in a crate for 23 hours a day and gives them the playtime they desperately crave. For info, visit www.themonstermilers.com.
Tailgate Party - Broad Street Run

DRRC is planning on having another tailgate party following the Broad Street run this year on May 2.
We will be parking at the usual spot, in the park below 95. We again plan on meeting at Springfield
library in the morning, so we can all carpool down to the park. More details will follow.

Attached is a link that notes what types of food we have had in the past. On this link please mark what item or items you plan on bringing.

Can you Support Team Elaine on Mother's Day?

My niece, Dana Reuther, is organizing a team to run or walk together at the the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Mother's Day, May 9th.  The race is in Philadelphia at the Art Museum and it is EARLY! It starts at 7 a.m. and SEPTA is running early trains to get people there.  We will also be looking at car pooling.  Dana is putting the team together to honor my mother/her grandmother, Elaine Reuther, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.  My mom, I'm happy to say, is doing great.  Dana wants to acknowledge her fighting spirit and raise some money for breast cancer research.  John and I are sponsoring the team by buying the Tshirts.

We'd love to have you run or walk with us.  We need some more bodies.  Failing that, please consider donating.  And pass this along to friends or family who might join us!

You can register for the race as a member of Team Elaine by going to:  http://www.race.komenphiladelphia.org/.  Click on Register  and then Register for a Team and search for Team Elaine.  Or Donate at the site by clicking Donate and then Donate to a Team.

Anyone who registers as a member of Team Elaine or who contributes more than $10 to Team Elaine will get a shirt.  Truly a collector's item.  Even John says he'll wear it (on Race Day, anyway).  Thanks for anything you can do.  Please contact me with questions.

Good Eats

Turkey Avocado Pannini

1/2 ripe avocado
1/4 cup light mayonnaise
2 ciabatta rolls
1 tablespoon olive oil, divided
2 slices provolone cheese
1 cup whole fresh spinach leaves, divided
1/4 pound thinly sliced mesquite smoked turkey breast
2 roasted red peppers, sliced into strips

Mash the avocado and the mayonnaise together in a bowl until thoroughly mixed.
Preheat a panini sandwich press.
To make the sandwiches, split the ciabatta rolls in half the flat way, and brush the bottom of each roll with olive oil. Place the bottoms of the rolls onto the panini press, olive oil side down. Place a provolone cheese slice, half the spinach leaves, half the sliced turkey breast, and a sliced roasted red pepper on each sandwich. Spread half of the avocado mixture on the cut surface of each top, and place the top of the roll on the sandwich. Brush the top of the roll with olive oil.
Close the panini press and cook until the bun is toasted and crisp, with golden brown grill marks, and the cheese has melted, about 5 to 8 minutes.  If you do not have a pannini press, prepare like a grilled cheese, pressing down on the sandwich frequently until cheese is melted and sandwich is heated through.

The next book is The Magician's Assistant by Ann Patchett. 357 pages, 1998.

The Magician's Assistant sustains author Ann Patchett's proven penchant for crafting colorful characters and marrying the ordinary with the fantastic. When Parsifal, Sabine's husband of more than 20 years and the magician of the title, suddenly dies, she begins to discover how she's glimpsed him only through smoke and mirrors. He has managed to keep hidden the existence of a family in Nebraska--his mother, two sisters, and two nephews. Sabine approaches them hungrily, as if they are a bridge to her beloved husband and a key to the mysteries he left behind.

All Club members are welcome to join us. Email me at info@delcorrc.com if you have any questions.
