Foundations

Our new residents are in the full swing of their Foundations month. This is an opportunity for them to become familiar with the many aspects of their future training, including faculty, sites, and their homes at the health centers.  We all wish them a very warm welcome to the Worcester Family Medicine Residency. New Library Guide

Introducing our new Library guide!  Please visit the link here. This is the portal to any web-based tools you may need for clinical or residency information.  If you notice something isn't here that should be - please let us know.  A great big thank you to Len Levin for setting the site up for us.  Please check out the WFMR tab on the Library guide which includes the link to our Family Medicine Intranet site with lots of residency specific information (you can also find the Intranet site here.

"Shakespeare in the Park"

The central office has had a tradition of a night at Green Hill Park to enjoy a Shakespeare performance. The seats are inexpensive and the entertainment is outstanding.  Please feel free to join us on August 5, 7pm for Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors.

hayleyJune's Resident of the Month
 Hayley Moak-Blest, PGY-3
      Hahnemann Family Health Center

Hayley graduated from The Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2008. . She completed her BS in Nutrition with Honors at UMass-Amherst. Hayley has a strong background in community health and fitness.

Here are only a few of the nominations we received for Haley:

Dr. Sahd:  "I would like to nominate Hayley. She is very dedicated to her patients and is a senior resident that I look up to. She handled this busy month (May) extremely well, with an excellent work ethic."

Dr. Carter:  "I would like to nominate Hayley for Resident of the Month for taking an extremely difficult health center chief month in stride. Hayley had a very high patient census for the entire month and still provided excellent patient care, teaching, and protected FMIS team numbers despite the heavy workload this meant for her. She deserves recognition for doing all this as well as she did because not too many people would have been able to!"

Dr. Hargreaves:  "Hayley has always been a star in the inpatient setting. She is a compassionate and skilled clinician as well as a dedicated teacher. It was remarkable to watch her juggle a VERY busy Hahnemann service in May, providing exemplary care to her patients, teaching junior learners, and looking out for her colleagues on FMIS by uncovering patients when the service was overwhelming. And she made it look easy!"

motaJuly's Resident of the Month

 Cristina Mota, PGY-2

     Family Health Center of Worcester

And here are excerpts from Cristina's nominations:

Dr. Eagles:  "She is a very hardworking resident. She always came prepared to round, knew the patients and looked up information on things she did not fully understand. She is always pleasant to be around and never complaining. She will make an easy transition to being a second year."

Dr. Kaplan-Gill:  "Cristina is a very caring, careful, and kind physician.  She is very dedicated not only to her patients but the "better" good of peoplekind.  Her attitude is always good and she is great to work with on all rotations."

Dr. Seymour:  "I really enjoyed working with Christina last month on FMIS. She really cares about making a positive difference by her actions in her patient's care. She is also able to remember to advance her own learning during all the chaos of the busy wards by really understanding the "why" behind a plan of care."

celebCelebrations and Congratulations!

Congrats to Residency Director Stacy Potts, MD on her two Champions of Excellence Awards!
At the awards ceremony at the Hanover Theater in June, her nominations were included in medleys sung to the tune of "Edelweiss" from The Sound of Music (her Integrated Care and Work award) and Don McClean's "American Pie" (her Diverse High-Performing Workplace award.)

Staff disclaimer: Dr. Potts' employees in the central office felt they could not pass up this chance to share her moment with the world and have coaxed her into letting us include these video clips from the Hanover Theater:
  "Edelweiss" clip      "American Pie" clip
