 Celebrations and Congratulations

MayMay Resident of the Month

Rebecca Blumhofer, PGY-1

 Barre Family Health Center

                                          Blumhofer

Rebecca Blumhofer, MD graduated in 2010 from Boston University School of Medicine. She graduated summa cum laude from Wheaton College in Illinois in 2004 with a degree in Biology and also earned her MPH in 2006 from BU's School of Public Health.  Rebecca is a National Health Service Corps Scholar and her interests include playing the violin, cooking and gardening.

We are including below excerpts of just some of the many quotes we received from faculty and residents who nominated Rebecca:

Katrina Austria:  "For ROM, I'd like to nominate OUR intern, Becca! She has grown so much during her intern year, and I have seen her confidence build with each day. Her knowledge base is impressive, but she was still willing to learn and did her best to adapt."

Rosie Lau:
"I would like to nominate Becca for resident of the month. She is always enthusiastic and offers to help and checks in with everyone. She is very organized and thorough and always provides comprehensive care to her patients."

Alphonsus Kung: "Dr. Blumhofer is my resident of the month because she is an extremely competent intern, who is genuinely interested in medicine and care of her patients. Her work ethic is exceptional."

Dr. Lee: "Her enthusiasm and hard work with each case is clear. A pleasure to work with her!"

Dr. Martin: "We're especially thankful for all Becca has brought to Barre and to the residency. And I feel grateful to have come to know her better as an advisor. She's had a remarkable intern year and I'm delighted to have her as a colleague. Congratulations, Becca!"

Dr. Stenger
: "Wonderful to hear! Rebecca seems terrifically dedicated to good patient care, in her calm, quiet way."

We are delighted to welcome Jennifer Bradford (right) to WFMR as our new PGY-2 at Family Health beginning July 1! Student Quality Leadership Academy

For those interested in quality improvement: on June 24-25, join the IHI Open School in Cambridge, MA, for the Student Quality Leadership Academy. This is a two-day program for students and residents designed to build the leadership competencies of students from all health professions. Participants will learn to lead change, manage projects, handle conflict, and communicate more effectively.

The event is free, complimentary hotel rooms are available, and space is limited, so apply today! The agenda is included below. Applications are due by May 27. For more information, please contact Shannon Mills at smills@IHI.org.

Jenkins Award Nominations

We are seeking nominations from faculty and residents for the Annual Jenkins Award. This award is given to a resident (typically second year) who exemplifies a passion for teaching and learning. A full description is attached.

Orientation Schedule

Just a reminder about two upcoming events for our entering residents: the annual Orientation for the new interns will take place on Friday, June 24 in Knowles Hall at 7:30 am. And, the annual Ecotarium outing for our new and current residents and faculty will be on Sunday, June 26 from 12-2 (family members are welcome.)

Foundations Block

Plans for the third Foundations block are well underway. Thank you to all the faculty and residents who have been so helpful in the planning process. We look forward to another busy but exciting month. This year's new component will be the simulation program. We look forward to incorporating our simulation equipment into a variety of activities in the Foundations block.

Master Schedule

A big kudos goes to Tamara Cullen for completing the master schedule work! An incredible effort went into trying to accommodate everyone's requests. We appreciate the scheduler's input and patience. (Applause!)
