                               March Resident of the Month

                                      Ginny Van Duyne, PGY-3

                           Family Health Center of Worcester

One nomination came from Kathryn Wilson, PGY-2 who said: "I want to nominate Ginny Van Duyne as Resident of the Month. Ginny is one of the most amazing residents I know. She is always doing small things to help out other residents and I feel it is often missed and not noticed. She not only is wonderful to the residents, but she is a wonderful teacher and amazing with her patients."

The attendings also had glowing things to say about Ginny:

Dr. Kaplan-Gill: "Ginny is one of the most dedicated and outstanding residents that I have ever met. There are times when I wish I was her patient. I don't think there are enough good things to say. "

Dr. Shields: "Ginny is the kind of resident who really goes the extra mile for her patients. My favorite example among many is how hard she worked for a complicated Vietnamese pregnant woman whose issues really were about psychosocial stressors; some of our faculty wondered about transferring this woman's care as too "high risk", but thanks to Ginny's close communication with our VN advocate and the woman's rehab program, the prenatal plan Ginny organized allowed this woman to stay in our care for a normal term delivery with equally close and dedicated postpartum follow-up on Ginny's part. Ginny's efforts here exemplify what a true medical home is all about--we all need to learn from her how to do this better."

And finally, from Dr. Kedian: "Ever since Ginny arrived at Queen Street we knew she was an amazing doctor. Its not just that she is smart, efficient and always seems to be in a good mood. One of Ginny's greatest strengths is her ability to reflect and her openness to see her patients in a new light. She is generous and kind and we're so lucky to have her. "

Ginny was a great help to all during her FMIS month in January and she was rewarded by winning ROM in a landslide nomination! Congratulations, Ginny!

Curriculum Retreat - Simulation Mannequins Unveiled!

The WFMR annual curriculum retreat focused on an introduction to the simulation equipment. It was great fun to meet our new family members, and to make plans as to how to integrate the simulation equipment into our busy residency curriculum. Thank you to all the attendees. A special thank you to Allison Hargreaves for her presentation and continued leadership in this area. Here are some photos:

New Global Health Track Blog
The Global Health Track's trip to Nicaragua has wrapped up! The successful trip is the first for the new Global Health Track, directed by Anna Doubeni, MD. Read all about it in the Global Health Blog written by Elliot Schaeffer, PGY-1 at the Fitchburg residency. Our Worcester residents and fellows in the track who completed the trip are Amber Wiekamp, Christina Mota, and Juan Carlos Ramos, who of course all appear in the blog as well. Thanks to Elliot for doing such a wonderful job blogging from Nicaragua!

ACGME Annual Survey

The annual survey from the ACGME will be opening next week. Residents are required to complete this survey within a 30 day open period. Please try and complete this in a timely fashion. The survey will be open for our program from March 15 to April 17. The sooner everyone gets the survey done, the quicker we can stop sending reminder emails. :) The survey results are critical to our continued accreditation. Please make sure you understand the questions being asked and be thoughtful in your answers. The site visitor will follow up on the answers at the next review.
