Presentation Tips from the eSlide Experts |
Issue 7, Feb 2010 |

Would you ever admit that you like PowerPoint to your colleagues or friends? It seems like the "in thing" to hate PowerPoint. We do love PowerPoint around here and admit it. This year we're looking forward to the release of PowerPoint 2010. We're working with the Beta version now, and we believe it is going to be worth making the upgrade. If you want to take a peek at the new features check out the Microsoft PowerPoint Team Blog or read Marshall's first impression at eSlide's meetcom.com blog.

eSlide Expert Corner Secret to Foolproof Presentations by TJ Walker with Jess Todtfeld
"You must record your entire presentation on video and then watch it". You absolutely must do this. It is the only way to find out whether your presentation is any good. You have to watch yourself giving your speech. You can't just stare at words written on paper. The presentation is you actually speaking, so you have to edit the rough draft of you actually speaking. Over and over again, clients ask, "TJ, do I really have to watch myself? I hate watching myself on video!" Sorry, but you do. The same way you have to read a letter before you send it or look at yourself in the mirror at least once before you leave for work in the morning. Is it painful to watch yourself? Yes. But this is less painful than wasting the time of people you are speaking to because you were boring or hard to follow.
So grab a video camera, a cell phone with a video capture, a Webcam, or any other video device and record your speech. Then watch it.

eSlide Extreme Makeover
Our Approach to this makeover was to focus on eSlide's design principle of economy, part of our S.E.E. Presentation Design Principles (Structure, Economy and Emphasis). Every slide that goes through our studio is evaluated on these three principles. This slide makeover is an example of economical use of slide real estate and simplifying the visual to the key elements of the message. The original slide on the left is not a bad looking slide, but just too much information for the audience to take in while listening to the speaker. The slide on the right is edited down and visually enhanced to focus attention on the speaker's key points. It supports the speaker's message rather than distracting the audience with too much reading. Remember your slides should work with the speaker, not replace them. Take a presentation to the next level. For more makeover examples, click on the images above or visit www.eslide.com/SAMPLES. |
